Addco Sway Bars: reviews please

Anyone run Addco sway bars on a lifted 4Runner? Yes, I know it's somewhat counter productive but my 3rd Gen is basically a Mall Crawler. I'm swapping out my LC springs for 890's to make it more suitable on the highway. Been thinking about going with some Addco sway bars too.

I don't expect it to handle like my 540 did, I just want to feel more confident with it when switching lanes, etc. curious who has run these bars and what you thought about them over the stock sway bars. Thanks.

I am lifted a bit and run them. Seems like disconnects would get you the best of both. Most do greater than 90% of the miles on pavement so it makes sense to me.

The improvement is dramatic.

Thanks man. I not think I'll need disconnects though, it's not going to be wheeled.

I have tundra coils and 99 coils in the rear with spacers.

I've been using them on my 1999 since 2000 and think they are a great addition.

I have both of those actually. I've had them on two others as well. Nice addition but not enough for my driving.

I should also mention, that they very much stand behind their products. I had a problem with some work I had done at a local garage and Addco stepped up and in my opinion went above and beyond.

I'm thinking about getting some addco sway bar too. Do you think they are worth the price of admission?

Ha. Can't say yet. They're still sitting down my basement brand new in the box. They will be finding their way onto the newest 3rd Gen I just bought though. Just waiting on a ton of other parts and the time to dig into her.

Yeah. It was actually a local Toyota dealer that had it listed in eBay. I was the high bidder on in two weeks in a row but didn't hit the reserve. So I talked to the guy, made an offer over the phone that he declined. Told him I'd like to come down and see it if I was going to go any higher. Went up another $200 and that sealed the deal.

Meaning what problem are you trying to solve?


The reason why I ask is because I have removed and put on my factory sway bar several times and I know first hand that is structurally one of the strongest components on the truck.

The factory sway bar is solid 1" (maybe 1 & 1/8 ?) steel from Japan and is tough as nails. I would be inclined to think the OEM sway bar is stronger than any replacement because at least with the OEM it is high quality steel from Japan vs cheap steel from China.

Also, the sway bar is stronger than both the brackets that hold it on, the bolts in the brackets and the links themselves. Because of this it is likely the brackets would sheer off the truck before the sway bar would somehow fail.

If you have an issue with it not fitting anymore because of a lift kit then aftermarket front links are the way to go.

My '02 has 210k miles - and has been in Colorado all its life towing a small trailer. Last time it was on a lift, I looked at the bushings and they're almost falling out.

According to this site: Toyota 4Runner Handling Modifications Addco Sway Roll Bars , factory sway bars are 1" and these are 1.25".... but is it made in China? Most likely... good point. Im gona research that.

BUT to answer you, I am in the process of overhauling my rig, and want as many new/upgraded parts as possible. I see the quick release option is pretty much the only way to go to secure both on road stability and easy off road capability.

This is more of a heads up than anything else. Hopefully, this hasn't affected anyone else. I ordered a front/rear ADDCO sway bar last Dec and the rear still hasn't come in...I finally cancelled the order last week (6 months of back order?). To be honest, I forgot I even ordered the thing...the front however did come in a long time ago...just not the rear. ADDCO hasn't answered their phones the last dozen times I tried to call and the company I purchased through SD Truck Springs (best price online at the time) gave up and refunded my money.

Not sure there are any other options for aftermarket sway bars or if someone has a better understanding what is going on with ADDCO. I would be curious to know what is going on.
