Adding electrical items (CB, outlets, lights)

My search abilities seem to be failing me, so I'll start a thread.

I want to add a ham radio, maybe a CB, some USB charger ports, maybe some interior cargo area LED's, etc., and I'm trying to figure out how to wire it. I know that for the ham radio, I need to come directly from the battery with the wiring.

My thought is, would it be reasonable to run some heavy wire from the battery (maybe like the wire for a big audio amp) to a fuse block or junction block inside the cab, then come off of that to each item? I'd fuse each individual circuit inside and the big wires from the battery.

I'm thinking that would reduce the number of connections at the battery. Does any of that sound like it's a bad idea for some reason?

Far from sounding like a bad idea, it is the best idea. I would also consider adding a "ignition" circuit for triggering relays if you want something NOT to operate with out the key.

This. Just be sure your HAM doesn't go through any other circuits aside from battery tho.
