Adding USB outlet in glovebox

Mine is in the center stack, I would like to also have one in the glove box like the in the 2012's. I know I can extend my existing one to the glovebox, but I would like to have 2. I can see a few options but am wondering if there is a spot to just plug in the glove box one if I were to get the part from the 2012.

I have seen the, not quite what I want to do, that simply moves the center stack one to the glove box. I want to have both

Have you tried grabbing a non-powered USB hub and test it out? I've read mix reviews searching on google...some people have said that with a hub it triggers and over drawn power warning or something and shuts down the USB port. I stopped my quest for this mod right then and there since I rarely use the USB anyway.

What about a powered USB hub? This one is 12v powered so all you would have to do is snip the power cord and wire it in:

Might be kinda big though. Usually they're 5v powered and it would be cheap and easy to wire one of those up with a little 12v-5v transformer.

I doubt they're hiding something that's already there but that's exactly what those openings are for. Some models (my SR5 Premium for example) have USB in the rectangular opening and 12v in the round. The round one sure looks like it would pry off but you probably have to cut the rectangular one.

Prior to 2014, they USB hub and DC outlet were in the glove box. They relocated them to the center console and made plugs for the existing holes.
Long story short it's much more cost effective to create plugs than it is to change the tooling to make the dashboard.

On the 2016 and newer (maybe other years too), that plastic thing in the glove box that has the rectangular and circular caps is where the USB and 12v "cig lighter" plugs were in earlier models. Later models have relocated those plugs to the center stack. There's nothing behind those caps in the glove box. You can pry the rectangular cap off. Not sure about the circular one. It's easier to get the cap off by removing the "trap door" adjacent to those caps. You can reach your hand in the trap door and pop the rectangular cap out from the backside.

As opposed to others comments that transferring USB & Plug to the glove box being a "20 minute job" it was not for me. Maybe... if they had taken everything apart prior to this it would have been but if you have never been into the dash before count on taking your time and spending it patiently prying and trying, but be patient. I found plenty of YouTube vids on taking apart the center stack and that was important for moving the wires but in my '17 I still had to do some splicing on the cig lighter wires. The USB port DID have enough wiring to move around to the other hole, but I had to disconnect the holding clips at more than one place and reroute it after pulling the radio head unit out of the way. I was grateful for that as I did not want to splice that many wires into a homemade harness and hope that I did it correct given that there were data wires too.
Long story short, just transferring the components is NOT a quick and easy job.
There is no extra data port to plug into behind the square or round hole in the glove box like you asked.
If you want USB in the glove box, that has data to the head unit you will have to give up the center stack one and reroute it.
If you want USB in the glove box I would suggest picking up the parts in the attached picture below and punching a new hole into the side access panel that pops out (not the filter one in the rear) and placing the new hole.
Where you will find power to tap into... I'd say tap the present cig lighter wires... but that is only powered if you have the key on. I would not know where to begin to find full time hot on that side of the truck (but I am sure someone here does) other than the "right" way by sending a dedicated home run to your thermal fused hot fuse block next to the battery.
There is NO easy way to pop the round or square blanks BUT... if you take apart the lower half of your center stack first you will see exactly what you are up against by looking close at the round and square actual USB and cig lighter inserts... this will show you where to do your prying.

Edit: I did not realize the retractable was in this photo... you won't need that. I got that because I also put this set up to the left of my steering column to power my phone hanging to the right of my A pillar in a nice and neat way. Don't forget to send some pictures when you get done!

Subscribed. Having the availability of both (center stack and glove box) would be a cool mod. Not sure how you could add the USB to be able to transfer data to the system??? The 12V, I would just wire to the battery directly or a fuse block. If someone could figure out how to have the USB plugged into the system, I would probably look into getting the part numbers for the USB and 12V plugs from the 2012's or earlier, and use the exact parts that fit those plugs in the later models.
