Hi All,

So i have a 92 with a bottom end knock, just bought another motor for Cheap the guy a bought it off said it had a miss. Was running ok no smoke and no bottom end knock. he bought the car for parts for his 4runner. So just wanting some advice on where to go from here

After a quick visual inspection the new motor is leaking oil from both rocker covers ( usual i assume )

Oil pump isnt OEM nor is the water pump and the timing belt has been done at some point.

So my plan is to do the following
Check compression
replace any gaskets and seals that have been leaking oil
new oil + waterpump and timing belt, Spark plugs, leads
Put her in and hope for the best....

Should i do headgasket while it's out of the car ( then i will be able to see what the bore looks like)

Any advice or info would be great :)

Thanks

Do the headgaskets while the motors out. Would be bad to put all the time installing the motor then find something wrong.

I'd start by replacing all the gaskets while it's out of the engine. Don't forget the oil pan gasket. This should stop any leaks. Apart from that, what you're planning to do is a partial rebuild, and as long as the bearings inside the engine are good you should be fine.

Make sure to adjust the valves.

Thanks I thought as much. When checking the bearings do I just check for tolerance or is there something else I should check for?
