Advice Request - Is upgrading the amp necessary when replacing the stock speakers?

Hey guys, I'm looking at replacing the speakers in my truck and was hoping someone could provide me with a little insight.

I spoke with someone from Crutchfield today about upgrading the speakers in my car, and the person told me that upgrading the speakers would do no good if I did not upgrade the amp as well. While I understand why upgrading the amp when upgrading speakers would help you get the most out of your new speakers, I had a hard time believing new speakers alone would not drastically change the sound. Wanted to check with you guys to make sure he wasn't just trying to 'up-sell' me.

To the guys who have replaced your stock speakers, did you all replace the amp as well? If not, do you believe your speakers sound a lot better than the stock ones did?

I'm not trying to build a ridiculous sound system in my car. All I want is for my music to sound better lol

New speakers might as well get an amp too. Also do sound deadening that makes a huge difference

It's not necessary but a good idea. Especially if you are running a stock head unit. An decent aftermarket head unit could provide a satisfying amount of power to some quality speakers of you want to go that route. Adding an amp on top of all that would be ideal though.

Sound deadening for sure though.
