Advisory: Baja Racks

Got the brackets and rack off tonight plan on installing the new ones tomorrow. Not as much damage as I thought but three of the four hard mount feet caused small wrinkling on the outside edge of the roof. Which blows

Pulling off the old silicon was a pain in the butt, but the new feet are mounted with out much issue. I did fully remove the rack to be able to look the roof over completely. Like I said earlier some damage but not nearly as bad as I thought.

Can't believe Baja isn't doing more for those that have a rack from them and can prove damage....unbelievable.
 
It would not be appropriate to discuss damage compensation on a public forum. I wouldn't assume that because you aren't reading it here that its not happening. ;)
 
my roof is dented, as well. all 4 corners. when i was installing the rack, i was really, really confused as to what was supposed to support the feet from the underside. i'm not an engineer, though, so i didn't bring it up. i'm sort of wondering if this is why is had such a hell of a time with leaking...i've got so much sealant under the bracket.

So has anyone tried to seek compensation for the dented roof? My roof is dented and a new set of feet is a totally unsatisfactory remedy to the issue.
 
I still haven't gotten a response to the e-mail I sent with the requested information, nor acknowledgement of "hey, my roof is dented."
 
Are there any class action lawsuits underway for this? You'd think that sort of thing would be promoted in this instance as there is safety in numbers.
 
I called Baja Rack yesterday to inquire about replacement feet and I was told that I should email [email protected].

For the original install I drove to San Diego in December to get help from Baja Rack. I know I didn't tighten the feet very much at all. I haven't removed our rack to check thoroughly but I'm hoping there's no damage.
 
Heard back. Was told to remove my brackets once the new ones come in and see if the dents fix themselves. If not, they'll help cover the costs.

Self healing dents? Do they have experience with this occurring? Seems the Toyota sheet metal has magic properties. I wish the door ding in my drivers door got that message. It has yet to heal itself....

Some small dents, not on creases or have no sharp points at the bottom (typical door dings) can actually fix themselves over time. It takes a specific type of dent but over time the daily heat from the sun will cause the slight dent to pop out. I know but I've had a few over the years fix themselves. Door dings, deep dents or dents on creases will never do it though. A PDR guy can fix them quick.
 
I'm not going to pretend to know a bit about metals and how they react to heat, but we'll see. What I wonder is if the fact that we've had 100+ degree days (in the shade) going to hamper the ability of the roof the self heal, and if the pressure from the mounts was too focused on such a small area. Guess we'll see. Sent from a basketball or something, sure. Mounting brackets....not so much.
