SOLD 02/2020!

2001 SR5 4x4 Automatic
Bought with 132,000 miles in 2012 with Viper remote start/keyless entry, B&M transmission cooler, Pioneer head unit, and tinted windows.

Currently 179,000 miles (late 2019)

I was looking for a skiing/camping rig, and always wanted a 3rd gen 4Runner. After I bought it, I made the huge mistake of checking some of the forums, and after looking at some of the build threads I pretty quickly caught the mod bug. Here is she in early 2017:

HungryEddy helped me put my ultimate lift on, and had a ton of negative rake for awhile.

Thing looked like a sports car before!

Tunda brake upgrade replaced badly warped rotors that were only made worse with 31" tires.

Nice build man! I like how the truck is all black. The only thing you are missing is a hood scoop :)

Thanks! Ya I wanted a black 4Runner, and the natural next step was get rid of all that chrome. My next wheels I get I don't think will be black though. Some contrast is nice.

great build!

Thanks! I figured I had enough done to it to finally post a build thread ..

Recognize most of those pictures! When I'm not at school I work in Boulder and my parents live north west of Sugarloaf. We'll have to go wheeling when I get back! :D Sweet looking truck too man!

Yet another unsuspecting person fallen to the mod bug! I had no idea what I was getting into when I bought my truck. Nice to see another black on black. Truck looks great.

What kind of bike is that? Looks like maybe an older GT or Diamondback? I work for Trek and am big into mountain biking. Grew up just a little over an hour from you in Cheyenne, WY. I used to ride the Rockies throughout CO and WY every summer. Man do I miss REAL mountain biking

Edit: I see the GF on the side of the frame. A Gary Fisher no doubt, subsidiary of trek

Thanks man. You go to school in Utah? Were your parents affected by the first last year? Sounds good let me know!

That looks like the parking lot off 116 heading up towards Rainbow Lakes.

Exactly, good eye. Love that area.

Yup, 2006 Gary Fisher Cake 2 Deluxe. I've only put different wheels, bar, crank/bottom bracket. Nothing too fancy, but it rides nice. So many amazing trails within 30 minute drive, have to love CO.

Yea in northern Utah in a city similar to Boulder. My folks didn't have any issues besides having to drive to Blackhawk to go down the mountain since all the canyons were wiped out. I'm actually flying in tonight to visit my girlfriend in Boulder and give a presentation at work, though for Thanksgiving break I'll be driving the runner back.

Last week I made a small cargo box for the rear. I didn't want to take too much space up from the dog, but when I bought the truck it had a big cracked section in the plastic panel, and I figured why not replaced it with some storage room.

Before with crack, tape to frame out where to cut.

More Fog Light Madness !!

Well I bought these Hella MicroDE fog lights like a year ago, but I didn't get any mounting brackets with them. After buying fog light brackets for 'factory fog lights 2001', I realized the factory ones were for the Stanley lights, and the Hellas were a dealer installed option. Checked some junk yards, checked some lighting dealers online, can't find anywhere. Drew up some brackets and got the dimensions on another thread on here, and got a quote to get them custom fabricated, and it was too expensive and outweighed the cost of a brand new full kit.

So I got to thinking and realized I could just cut and bend a piece of the OEM bracket to mount the lights:
Before:
IMAG0811_zps8v5sbo8w.jpg~original

After cutting with dremel:
IMAG0813_zpsmjs33z0w.jpg~original

Then if you mount the Hella light onto the bracket and put them in the bumper, it looks like this:
IMAG0817_zps4nauabz8.jpg~original

So the Hella metal plates have to be cut, and a new hole re-drilled:
IMAG0822_zpsywzaezoe.jpg~original

Then mounting it lines up nicely with the hole:
IMAG0819_zpsmmve3vmg.jpg~original

Only a single bolt holding them on, but I put a lock washer and some lock tight to make sure it doesn't come lose. Though I put a zip tie around it just in case it comes lose.

Then I got them mounted up, and got a OEM turn signal stock and relay, and plugged them in:
IMAG0823_zpstdyq2qj3.jpg~original

and ......... neither turned on.

So I took the boots off and both were severely corroded (white), and the wires were showing some exposed copper.

So I took them all apart and used vinegar and wire brushes to get all the corossion off:
IMAG0824_zpsq4zwwb3p.jpg~original

I put new connectors on the wires, and ordered some brand new PIAA Xtreme White H3 bulbs.

I also picked up some 1/4" tubing and pressed into the breather tube. Then I wrapped plastic bag with some the GF's hair ties around to further keep water and junk out of them:
IMAG0855_zpsrbmdywqu.jpg~original

My god they work! I had to bend the bracket a tad to them to look good, and the adjustment screw to fine tune. Gives a nice low, flat cutoff, ideal for fog obviously.
