After 1 week....thoughts on our new limited..

We took delivery on our 2013 blizzard pearl/black limited about a week ago and as an owner of two other 4runners (04 and an 06) here are my initial thoughts..

Why did Toyota put the second 12V plug in the glove box of all places?
The cup holders and console in general were much better on the prev generation. What's up with PARTY MODE? I guess the engine will loosen up but the prev generation seemed to have alot more pep in acceleration. I don't like the 7" wide rims. The seats seem more comfortable in the '13 and we like the extra room. Sound system is an improvement and we like all the other limited stuff. So far we are overall very satisfied with our purchase.

I like the 12V in the centre console box. On our road trip we could keep the phone or iPad charging with their cords in there and out of the way. If you notice on the top of the box wall at the front near where the lid latch closes you will see a little groove. This allows you to keep the arm rest/lid down while driving with your gadget in hand charging but the cords inside the box and no worry of it being kinked.

Trivial feature but found it useful.

As for cupholders.... They seem fine to me. I like that you can enlarge them by removing the insert. Again, trivial and pretty standard but handy.

Welcome to team LE. The tires can be fixed by upgrading. You won't regret it. Also, you can get dual 12v chargers if you want to not have to have the second in the storage, but like has been mentioned, it can be used closed so not really a big deal and can save some wire tangle...

You mean the Canadian model has the 12v outlet in the console too??? I went through so much trouble to install one in there because I had none from the factory :dammit:

Thanks. I was thinking to myself, "damn these cup holders are waaaay bigger than the ones on my 4th Gen!" Guess I'll be buying the inserts since they were not in my car when I bought it.

I think he misread the OP, who was complaining about the outlet in the glove box.

Yep, I also find 12v outlets in the console or glovebox quite handy. Phones and tablets can be plugged in and charging without any cable mess anywhere which is solid gold for me while driving. Maybe I'm just OCD, but there's also a safety factor there. If you need the device out, plug it in the dash. Simple. I haven't really come by a situation where I was wanting for a different 12v outlet location in the front or the back, but I'm sure other people will.
 
I think almost all Toyota's truck rims are 7.5" including 4th Gens and Tundras... They just don't make them wider than that, even TRD rims (so sad since some of those TRD rims are nice!)

Whoops... Yeah I think so. The 120V plug is in the centre console. The outlet and USB port is in the glove box... Though I haven't used either yet.
 
I love the outlet in the glove box but wish I didnt have to hit the accessory power button every time to make sure it's charging... So many times I plugged in my device, only to get to my destination with it dead because in never hit the power button
 
i just took delivery of 2013 Trail edition... in the glovebox, only a power port-12V switched to ACC and ON... the center stack under the cover has a USB (for iPhone entune) and 12V power switched to ACC and ON with AUX input.
ALL the power ports (cig lighters) are switched to ACC or ON. Meaning the key in the ignition to ACC or ON.
...... DAMN! I LOVE THIS VEHICLE!....
SO STOKED FOR SKI SEASON!
working on making sure all riders have power up to their phones.. whether iPhone or android for the drive up and back!
then "party mode" for gear up/down in the parking lot! HA!

Yep. That's why I got mine a couple weeks ago. My wife, who wanted a Highlander, couldn't understand my need for real 4WD with a low range for driving unplowed roads and such in the winter. Stoked.
 
Welcome to the 5th Gen Party!

Hope you enjoy your new ride as much as I have my 2012 Trail. My only two beefs are the inability of the stereo and center panel lights to brighten fully with the headlamps on and the fact that I can't lock the doors with the key fob with a door still open. Two nit picky issues though really, otherwise a superb vehicle.
 
What's up with PARTY MODE!?! It's what makes the 5th gen the envy of Porsche Cayenne and BMW X5 owners everywhere. Its also the real reason that so many 5th gen owners despise the 2014 refresh (they just blame the looks of the front end). :p
