Am I just a complete dumbass or is it difficult to hear the difference of party mode? I hit the button back and forth and wondering whats changing? I know its suppose to move sound to the back hatch? But aren't those speakers active all the time anyways?

Works a little differently depending on the stereo your runner came with. With the base stereos it is very noticeable when you engage Party Mode. With the JBL Premium (separate amp & sub), very little (if any) difference. The back door speakers still play and the rear hatch does not get any louder. Maybe a little more bass from the sub but not sure.

With base stereo the back door speakers do not play, the rear hatch speakers get considerably louder and I think more bass when Party Mode is engaged. In any event, in my opinion it's a stupid and useless gimmick but it is quite effective in attracting potential customers.

Yea I got the Limited with JBL Premium and I barely notice any difference. My friends think the button that says Party Mode is the coolest button in automotive history. I would think it was cool if a disco ball dropped from the headliner or something when I used it.

eddie333, I notice a definitive difference in the sound volume and quality when I turn Party Mode on. Actually, though, I think all it does is fade more power to the back speakers, increase the volume, and tweak the equalizer settings. In fact, it's kind of like a push-button-one-setting equalizer/volume control. But yes, I definitely notice the difference.

In my 2013 TE I have the "base" stereo and the back door speakers DO play in regular mode as well as Party mode.

BTW, I think the "base" speakers sound excellent. I can turn up the bass enough to make my speakers rattle and woof but in lesser settings the stereo sounds really good.

Edit: My bad. You are right Hawaiian4Runner, the back door speakers do not play when in Party mode. Which is weird. Sorry I misread your comment first time around.

when i crank up some tunes, and open the rear hatch, then click the "party mode" button... the brass pole, unhinges from the tailgate, and "dancers" appear outta nowhere! i didnt see this option on the window sticker, but it's an option that i cant live without! LOL!! now there's a "mod" that needs a thread of it's own!

Yep, I also find 12v outlets in the console or glovebox quite handy. Phones and tablets can be plugged in and charging without any cable mess anywhere which is solid gold for me while driving. Maybe I'm just OCD, but there's also a safety factor there. If you need the device out, plug it in the dash. Simple. I haven't really come by a situation where I was wanting for a different 12v outlet location in the front or the back, but I'm sure other people will.

I actually use the outlet in the back. I frequently have my dogs crated in the cargo area, so to keep them cool (and the air circulating) I have a small 10" fan that I plug in back there. Works pretty good!

Cool! I've only ever used the rear outlet for my inverter, but I know guys that run everything from fridges to heaters to potable DVD players and PC's

As for my pup, I typically drive with the front and rear windows open and she usually just stands up takes in the breeze She's a greyhound though, so she's tall enough to do that. Also helps that she travels well.
