I can tell you with certainty the weight of your wheels/tires makes a big difference in performance.

I have the URD Off Road Y-Pipe on my 17' TRD Pro. It removes the rear catalytic converters and eliminates the dreaded "crimp" on the stock Y-Pipe. I also have a TRD Intake.

With 10,000 miles on the motor with full steel RCI skids plus the gas tank skid, Gobi Stealth Rack and Shrockworks sliders, I'm averaging 16.5 mpg with 50% city and 50% highway driving on pavement only.

Removing the rear cats could definitely change things. What's your wheel tire setup and how do you feel about the performance since the modifications?

When my warranty ends I will throw on headers, straight pipe exhaust (without muffler and cats at first to test it then put it on). After I monitor my road trip to Colorado this coming up weekend and break it in a little (it only had like 400 miles on it still) I will then decide whether or not to pull the trigger on a better COI kit. The list of mods keep adding up and the wallet is getting thinner.

I have the TRD CAI, URD Y Pipe, Magnaflow Muffler, and the spring booster... Maybe 4.88's will be in my future ... And when my warranty is done. I plan on doing full headers ...

yes sure ... it was FREE !!!

the company I work for paid it ... because we had a leak and my 2month old 4runner got spray with some caustic which destroyed the paint.

but if I would have it re done... It would run 5 to 6k for the Lexus LFA paint job

Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I should go move my vehicle into an accident prone spot

doing a urd y pipe did greatly added some git' up and go ... And is a worth while mod. Only issue is it can over heat the transfer case and will require more oil changes. And greasing the drive shaft more...

I had my Y-Pipe wrapped and spray coated with DEI after your experiences with the additional heat.

You're in Riverside, CA and you removed the back cats. How are you going to pass the smog test every other year?

For the heat I would fab simple heat reflector plates like the ones above the OEM back cats. SS thin gauge metal would work and be easy to fab. The plates get hot but dissipate the heat faster in the rushing air, a bit like a radiator fin.

This is better than nothing brudda...

down side to wrapping is moisture ( especially when you do water crossing or drive in the snow) ... DEI is really just a coating...

I did the research and inconel shielding was the best way for me to go ... I have experience with what inconel shield did for my old turbo cars. And it lowered engine bay temps greatly without attracting moisture to rust my pipes out. Plus Ive been known to submarine my 4runner or go to the snow alot. So inconel heat shielding was worth every penny

our 4runners are new. Your is a 2015 ( smog is due on 2021 and mine is 2014 smog is due on 2019) ... And Smog is only required after 6years ( exactly when the warranty for your factory cats expire) ... And then its 2years after that

so hurry up and put the y pipe in .. And enjoy 4 more years before you need smog. Plus its soo easy to swap in and out ... especially when the rig is lifted
