aftermarket exhaust v6 4x4 (no drone options)

im still debating if im gonig to replace my stock muffler or not. i recently removed the resonator and slight angled with a nice tip for now. it was day and night difference in appearance, so much better than the ugly stock resonator and straight rear exit. I do like the idea of better sounding exhaust, but definantly don't want drone or it being too loud where it annoys me or others around. i see trucks with such loud exhaust all the time and it's a bit tacky. If I do decide to go with the big magnaflow muffler, would expect to re-use this nice tip...it was like $100 to get it installed.

I think your tip and position looks the best; very well done. do you know what angle they bent the tailpipe at?

Trust me as a fellow drone hater, the 5 x 8 x 24 is money!! Very subtle not the least bit intrusive.

my understanding is, they just cut off the resonator, and with the tip being so long, they positioned the tip the furthest they could towards the side and still be able to weld it on. It's like 18" tip with 3.5in outlet... they called it "black stainless" it was a bit darker than typical stainless tips. I will be adding AFE CAI soon, so that will add some noise....still debating on the magnaflow muffler thou.

My 5x8x24 Magnaflow, resonator delete, side exit setup is going in later this afternoon. Cangler, responding to your thread a couple times got me moving on this...so I don't know whether to thank you or hate you for making me spend more money. Regardless, cheers!! :beer:

Minimal, the 22" will be a touch louder. My money is with the 24" as the perfect growl, no drone option.

Just an FYI that the 22'' is what I just installed. Its actually quieter than the 24'' because the oval is 5x11x22 rather than 5x8x24. Comparing volume is 1,210 vs. 960 while ignoring the fact that neither are 'rectangular', but the example still works.. lol

I think the part # on the 22'' is 12586. You can see/hear more in the link in my sig. This is the quieter of the magnaflows, and almost too quiet for me (and I was going for quiet).

I'm going to get the rear resonator removed to help maybe make more noise.

*Edit. This 22'' does still growl and comes alive with the gas pedal. No droan.

Nice, I had no idea the 22" would be quiter, good to know. Well, I just got back from having the 24" installed, res delete, and bent for the side exit and man it sounds nice!! I was worried that the 24" w/o res would be louder than my 24" on my Tacoma since i stil had the resonator on that set up. However, I'm very happy with the results...perfect light growl on low RPM gas pedalling and will open up when gunned to a stronger growl. I kept the dumb tip that the previous owner installed, but need to get a longer one donw the road. I'll post a pic or two within the next few days.

It seems that if you want no droan and slight grumble go with the 24", and even more quiet, do as stanleybb50 did and get the 22".

the 24" is what i have been almost a year since i got mine installed and just lovin' it. took the resonator off as well and had the tip re routed to the side. good to know the 22" is the quiter one i wasn't sure at the time.. that might be my next muffler if in any case i get tired of what i have.

I may just get the 22" 12586, and re-do the piping (remove stock cat-back/pipes)....I really hope I can re-use the nice tip I added a couple weeks ago, it was welded it.... you guys know if you can re-use tips if they have already been welded on?

On another note, this past weekend... I installed the afe stage II CAI, and it sure increased the noise of the engine, but not too bad where it will bother me... I actually like how it sounds now. we'll see if it actually improves mpg. I think with this CAI and the 22" magnaflow, it will be a nice combo.

I would definately think it can be re-used.

On that note, I can't pick a tip! What tip did you go with? I want something I can buy for cheap off the internet. Preferably magnaflow double wall tip. But I don't know whether for tips if I need to go with 2.25'' inlet or 2.5''? And what length is right for the shop to still properly be able to route out the side? I feel like an idiot for not knowing this stuff!

Anyone have a part # to a tip they successfully had installed that looks good?

This particular one is "black stainless" (scroll up for photos) which was a bit darker than typical stainless, and they claimed "black stainless" tips are new on the market. It's suppose to be 18" long and 2.25-2.5" inlet he said the inlet size didn't matter, he can widen it if they needed to... so either a 2.25 or 2.5" should be fine. If you want the tip more directly out the side instead of angled, a shorter tip may be appropriate.

No call back yet either...and the guy smoked with my window opened under the car, so it smelled like smoke when I left. ugh!

Corrected! sounds good, pretty quiet really....guess I could have been in the middle, it was a 20 they said (I measured only the canister)...and now I have a 24..in between gives a good sound). The 20 sounded like a WRX, which isn't bad if your a WRX : ) ...
