Aftermarket or DIY cup holders?

Maybe I am just to stupid to search properly but I tried every combination I could think of and haven't found anything.

Has anyone come up with a decent aftermarket or DIY cup holder for the early 3rd gen? I have read the console swap threads and may end up doing that but I would rather come up with something a little simpler for now.

Every time I try to use the pull out dash cup holder on my 97 I feel like strangling someone at Toyota

unfortunately the only way to do it and make it look nice is the 99+ swap.

I ride solo most of the time so I did this. Its a factory cup holder from a Land Rover Discover I got from Ebay for about $20. Holds huge cups and has an insert that comes out to go even bigger You have to be willing to drill 2 small screw holes into your shifter cover. Not sure how or if it will work in a 4WD but I am really happy with the results.

You might be able to fit one on either side, that is how the Disco cup holders are. Almost in the same place iirc, it's been awhile since I have driven/ridden in one.

Yup it did fit fine on either side, didn't rub my leg and I am 6'1". I just decided to only do one on that side, again because I ride solo most of the time.

Disco's have a much bigger area to play with.

The dash cupholders are just fine, i use them more than the console ones anyway and i have to shift you just have to occasionally put it in park. The console ones allow **** to flop side to side, as do the disco ones (mom had a disco). The dash ones have the tension on the container and they don't move. There is no easy or perfect solution as each have their pro's and cons.

I designed and built my own cup holder yesterday. Im going to install it a little later today. It works perfectly and will hold almost any size cup. It mounts in a perfect spot as well. I built it in around 3 hours and for $15. Ill post pictures when I install it.

Oops. I spent $15 and 3 hrs building mine so I DONT have to use that one.
