aftermarket radio problems

pulled stock one out to put the pioneer in and have an intermittent short in the brown wire that goes into a small unit behind the dash. no problem hook ground to another location had similar problem in past with radio ground in other vehicles.

my problem is i have no sound to anything. a separate speaker works just fine. stock radio worked b4 i removed it. does the brown wire cause this problem?

Is there a separate amp behind the OEM stereo that needs to be removed?

whatever the unit is i havent a clue but its stock.

i messed around a little more and now the radio makes sound in aux, flickers on n off for cd and still no sound on tuner. I think i might have a lack of amps there but im no expert

No, lack of an amp I don't think would cause it.

Did you use an adapter plug or did you try and cut/splice it yourself? The old stock colors do NOT match up to the new harness colors. So unless you know what each stock wire does not based off the colors, it will be wired wrong.

i found a write up on here i believe for the wiring colors and all seems to b fine as far as power goes. im gonna pull the ran radio wires out of my jeep that i use as a bypass with switch and see if different results occur. seems real werid 2 me only static is comin out aux and cd player on fritz. i hooked to the jeep a few times 2 double check and headunit is fine

i ran the temp bypass wires and radio is stable but still no sound. when i did them last night i noticed that the light in the ac flickered when the ground was connected to the original ground when on cd.

Pull the stock amp. You don't want to run that Toyota amp plus your aftermarket radio. You never know, that may be the problem and its the easiest thing to do.

Bypassed amp, still no sound from speakers?

Hey folks, having a similar problem with my 2000 limited.

Installed aftermarket Blaupunkt Tennessee media receiver (80w×4) .

Removed factory amplifier and used those connections to plug new wiring harness into.

Still no sound from speakers in any mode. Any ideas at all?

1st thing to do is to check your fuses. I've blown a fuse before doing some wiring, it's very possible.

2nd thing is to double check your wiring. Did you wire it yourself or did you use a connector adapter (and if yes, is it for the right year)? Remember, the wire colors on your new stereo do not match the original stock wire colors so if you just matched colors it's not going to work.

From my experiences the folks are correct and you pull the connectors off the amp and plug into them when using an aftermarket radio.

I no longer pull the OEM out as they have a good am/FM cassette and CD player. A just use a less then $20 bluetooth adapter which can be bought at walmart or Amazon and get bluetooth. Then my phone just plays my tunes and can answers calls.

Having any success getting your speakers to function with the After Market Head units?? I seen guys blow the factory amp up by plugging their harness right where the radio plugs in.

I even have one a previous owner did something majorly wrong. I plugged a factory radio back in and I got was a high pitch beep out of it amp. So they can be damaged. :-(

Bought an aftermarket wiring harness as well (Toyota specific and correct years), and color matched wiring according to that. Are you saying that harness and my new stereo will have different wiring schematics?

Sometimes they can be different colors. Mostly that's only on the universal wiring kits though. Radios harness can be different color wires then the OEM as well. Verify that each side is correct. Front speakers and polarity match. Rear speakers and polarity match. If you bought one car specific they mostly match.


What happens when you plug all the OEM radio back in will your speakers and radio work?

If not, you definitely have some fueses blown. I always ran my ground to chassis as the worst thing you can do is run around with a multimeter and assume a wire is ground now is ground always. I made that mistake in a 1987 Toyota pickup truck. That costed me a few fuses and why I included a link to the wiring diagram. :]

I made sure wiring was correct following the diagram. The headunit I removed was an older aftermarket pioneer head, not OEM. When I replaced it speakers worked perfectly. Can't think of what it may be. Gonna give in and take it to the shop.

Does the new head unit have a fuse on the back of it? Is it good. Sometimes it's best to have fresh eyes on it. Let us know how you make out
