Aftermarket speakers, Scion HU

Question - I have a Scion HU and just installed Infinity Reference speakers (6.5 components in the front, 6.5 2-ways in the back door). For some reason, I have to turn the volume up louder now with the new speakers (although they sound much better) - any ideas?

Sensitivity is probably lower with the Infinities. I've seen some aftermarket speakers that would take quite a bit more power for the same volume.

I have a Scion HU and I ended up with 4 channel and sub amps to drive my new speakers.

Without getting technical it takes more power to run good aftermarket speakers than our stock speakers. Also takes more power to run components than coaxials.

You won't be getting your money's worth with your Infinity's until you hook them up to an amp.

Thanks - sounds like an amp is in order...any suggestions out there on a 4-channel that would be reasonably well-matched to the Infinity speakers? They're reference speakers, not Kappas - so I don't imagine I need anything too out of control, but if I'm going to make the investment then I want to make sure I'm giving them enough juice to sound like they should!

Whats the RMS on the References? How much do you have to spend?

The fronts are 90w RMS components, and the rears are 60W RMS 2-ways.

I'm happy with the ones I got, but I'm no expert on amps. I will tell you that if you are planning on doing the install yourself, don't forget to order an amp kit at the same time. It stinks to get your new equipment and not be able to do anything with it!

Knukonceptz are amazing products and very reasonably priced.

For amps it really depends on how much you want to spend. My only experience has been with Rockford Fosgate, Pioneer, JL Audio, and a few others way back in the day .

I would go with one of the better quality names like RF or JL and if you don't want to spend too much they have economy lines that are still very good quality.

If you are installing it yourself I would recruit a buddy that has done a system before to help you because it is very easy to buy great equipment and have a crappy sounding system just by simple mistakes during install.

Beware sound systems can be very very addicting and if you're not carefull you will be hiding purchases from your wife and meeting the UPS guy at the end of the driveway in no time...lol
