Any idea which wire on the cig lighter? They are both gray but I think one has stripes.

Not sure about your year, but the 02 EWD says one is Gray, the other is White with Black stripe. The Gray is power, white with black is ground.

working at a car stereo shop we just twist and tie the copper wires and tape them up. disconnect the antenna to make sure you have a strong ground as the radio can use the antennas ground

This is why I would never let a shop install an audio rig in one of my vehicles.

I dont trust the conductive flow of the straight thru crimps, cap crimps on twisted wires is good but ive never had a problem with my splices and its cost effective

You've never had a problem but how about your customers three years from now?

Solder and heat shrink for the long-term reliable connection. Crimps do suck.

This is why I would never let a shop install an audio rig in one of my vehicles.

I made a living for several years fixing the horrific installations, and subsequent problems caused by stereo shops. Of course if I installed for a living I'd have to charge $300 per install at least.

I'm in a similar boat... My radio doesn't get any power from the harness. Both the switched power and the constant have connectivity with the ground and have zero potential difference when the car is on/off. That means its shorted somewhere and I need to either: run new wires for both the live wires or trace the wire back and try to find the short, right?
I'm having problems finding an accurate diagram that shows where the wires run for the radio. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I've got a 1998, SR5 that my brother has done god knows what to the electrical system on...

Edit:
I may have discovered some of my issues... he installed 2 extra 12v plugs on the passenger side and didnt insulate the connection at all. Could this be doing anything weird and keeping power from reaching the radio by any chance?

well, I figured out one issue... I was looking at the wrong fuse. There are 2 15A fuses right next to each other...

thinking about adding a stereo with blue tooth. I don't have any stearing wheel controls, .. how long does it take to do it +/-?
