Are any of the OEM head units worth the trouble of installing? I have a 2016 SR5 and would like nav and a better stereo. I think the last time I looked into this I would need Toyota to program it for me?

Youtube kindly let me know the Trail Grid Pro guys put together a speaker upgrade package for 4Runners. These guys are on the other side of the state for me but I'm gonna have to make a trip out west, they're crushing how to make upgrades easy. Can't speak for sound, but would be interested if anyone has the JBL System and what it sounds like without changing the amp.
I'm a Kicker guy going back to twin 10'' Solobarics in a '94 wrangler. Currently have the KS speakers in my '08 with the AX-7000 headunit and they thump.

The cost of new OEM headunits or trying to pair swapped ones varies by the year of how they would match up to your 2016 wiring.

I just posted above this about the speaker upgrade that the Trail Grid guys offer, but I originally found them looking for aftermarket headunit swaps. They sell kits that are easy to install, retain the wiring on steering wheels I believe by using a PAC Audio SWC kit, which retains the SWC's and Aux input/Backup Camera. Had to use one of the PAC kits when i got my Sony AX7000 on my 08 upgrade, but i went thru Crutchfield before i knew these guys were around.
Take a look at their headunit swaps since they have the replacement faceplates, will probably be easier. OEM's from wrecks or other sales would be cheaper though.
I know this is an old post but I've been searching and trying to find an answer. Did you get your park assist to work? I can't seem to get mine on my 18 limited to work with the maestro unit.
The parking sensors do not work. I pressed Maestro on it and they confirmed the sensors are not on canbus, therefore not picked up via data with the RR like many other Toyota's are. 2020+ maybe different.
If you are referring to back-up camera and parking lines that bend as you turn the wheel, that is radio dependent. Kenwood and JVC have had that feature for a while. My new Alpine does not have that feature with the Maestro RR.

Parking sensors, I’ve got the dynamic lines to work. Just wish I could see the parking sensors on the radio.

I know this is an old thread but I went by Best Buy about a month ago and got a quote for a stereo install with and without a backup camera for my 2011 4Runner. My ex knows his stereos and he's used them twice and was happy with the work. I don't know anything about stereos but I think the price was reasonable.

I wouldn't depend on Best Buy to do the install. Support your local audio shop and have them do the work instead

Anyone replace their factor stereo with alpine halo11 ilx-f511? Looking to do so and wondering if there’s a way to integrate climate control? Also have seen some post about streaming while in drive options. I understand this is not advised for the driver obviously for safety reasons but truly something that would be nice for passengers. 2019 TRD PRO. Thanks!

From what I've seen, If you have the digital dual climate control it will work with a maestro, but the manual knobs will not. I have the manual knobs and would have loved to swap the digital if I could achieve this
I have. There is not climate control integration with Maestro. I cannot see my temperature setting on the hvac but Im mostly ok with that because of automatic controls. I could raise the radio up some, but that would sacrifice more of the vent above.
If I had to do it all again, I think a 9in version would be better.

Same question.. I have been researching for over a week now. I am down to an Alpine ILX 407, Pioneer DMH-W2770NEX, and the T10 versions 2.1 or 3.1 from Cartrimhome... from the KingSev Youtube video it looks like there is decent support from the Facebook group. Anyone have any experience with buying from CTH and/or the T10 deck and how it measures up against Alpine/Pioneer Etc? It definitely has more features... and a bigger seemingly more vivid screen. Im always hesitant to buy from "non-brand" though... but heres what Im looking at... from Crutchfield: ILX 407 (382 (open box)+260 install kit= 643), the DMH-W2770NEX (380+ 140 Install kit= 520$) and then the T10 v2.1 (upgraded to 6/128gb)= 625 and the v3.1 is 785$ (upgraded to 6/128gb). last question... for those that have owned one of these, is the 4.64gb sufficient? or would you go back and do the upgrade if you could?
would pass on the android units, unless you are decent at tinkering with them. Other aftermarket models should be solid, check the halo 9 out , could probably get at $300 range, its been sitting for awhile. Returns to either place on the android units seem okay, its hit miss on quality. There are sure to be "work arounds" but most of your support comes from FB groups and users.
Pending what you want I'd recommend the OEM 21 plus headunit and retrofit it with an adapter harness. I've no issues with mine for the past 9 months plus or longer. I may add a kicker key 200.4 amp eventually but not pressed on it yet.

I definitely considered your deck for awhile.. but both my wife and I arent really fans of the floating screens... After a couple weeks of digging into this, Im not finding any decent Head units larger than about 6.8 by the big boys (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer). Im seeing constant complaints for units all the way up to 500 and 600 dollars on Crutchfield where these decks just freeze up and reboot etc. To pay 600$ or more on a deck and then also pay 200-300$ on installation kit/wiring etc. and have those kind of issues is just crazy. I know from experience how crappy some of the screens are and how non-responsive they can be to touch until you get to the pricier units. After spending waaaay more time reserching this than I should have spent, I think Im gonna go with the T10 v2.1 from Cartrimhome (2.1 because I like the volume knobs and it looks more like the 2014+ units). I see multiple T4R influencers on youtube that have put these in their 4runners and they are vivid, smooth and dont seem to have some of the issues the units sold from companies here. (and lets be honest, we all know that Alpine, Pioneer, Sony, Kenwood etc all use parts and labor from China). All these decks are coming from China. Its just a matter of who will stand behind their product right? Well, oddly enough, Im seeing tons of issues where the big domestic audio companies arent being very helpful. Its easy to use their name and reputation to skate by and charge larger than necessary premiums. KingSev seems to back his stuff really well, and more of the problems seem to come from his rejected units that you see Daisata and others selling on Amazon, not the actual T10 units. So unless a few people that have actually had poor experiences with the T10 share those, I think Im gonna go for it.
BTW, OSUGSXR I definitely looked into the 2021+ head units and they are outrageously priced... way more than a premium Kenwood and Alpine... and thats before you get the cables needed to make it work in a 2010... Not worth it.

The android units I would try to find one cheap locally if you can. I debated one to tinker with at $200 range . The seller stated usual tinkering and small issues and keeping up to date on FB for fixes. The install of it is OEM look which is nice.
The OEM radio I found was off ebay and I lucked into it. Think it was around $250 and then the retro fit harness for another $200. I sold the old OEM at $200 to offset some cost.

I finally had a weekend off and decided to tackle sending the backup camera feed from my factory rear view mirror to my Pioneer z130bt head unit's 7 inch display. I wanted to keep the picture in the mirror as well as having it viewed on my screen, but, i guess you can do what you want. My buddy Jimmy C's came over yesterday and we tackled it. He helped me out a lot, because i was reading the toyota wiring diagram backwards..or upside down...
Most of the guys on the forum have the Toyota OEM navigation system and then put in an aftermarket nav, this means they had different plugs in the dash, and had a plug i think it was the g20 plug that they could tap into to get the video signal. See Antman's thread for a how to on OEM Nav. The sr5's with out navigation do not have this luxury, or at least i don't think they do. I had to pull down a bunch of stuff and then tap into the wire, i wanted to keep it all looking good and keep the rear view picture working. Also, to elaborate. When you are testing to make sure that the are indeed tapping into the correct wires, you will need to plug the mirror back into the harness, because we think that the feed get's it's power from the harness. Without it being plugged in, we did not get the video feed, we only got the reverse sensing feed. Once we stripped back the wires on the video feed, plugged it in, did we get the video to appear on the screen.

I stole this pic to show you guys: You need to pull down the sun glass holder and pull this wire out of the rear view camera.
Here are the wires you need for the reverse sensing wire and for the display video feed. Make sure you have the plug oriented correctly, and are grabbing the correct wires!
I personally tapped into the wires, then ran them across the headliner by the windshield. Then down the drivers side A-pillar, under dash, and into the back of the trucks dash.. Then i connected the reverse sensing wire into the purple wire on my head unit(it was marked by Pioneer, your model may be different) And then i spliced the other wire into a RCA cable and plugged that into the backup camera input, which was a RCA plug.
Note, my RCA cable actually had 2 wires inside of it. A red and a white wire. The white didn't do anything, and when i tried to ground it, it made the signal go away. So i just taped off the white wire, and used the red for the feed.

Proof-
Though I’m replying to this post that is over a decade old, it still came in handy when I replaced the original HU in my 2010 w/out Navi. Installed a Pioneer DMH-WC5700 and Maestro RR with all the iDatalink harnesses. Even though iDatalink doesn’t say it supports the backup cam into the HU, I took one of the spare backup cam adapters, connected the yellow wire to the rear view mirror cable harness. I also had to ground the brown wire (video neg) on the adapter harness for the video feed to properly display on the HU.
