I think I'm going to build a carputer...I found a few nice interfaces...I haven't found any thing else that will do what I want. Just need to do some more research and decide...but, first, I have to get me my damn 5th gen!!!! please get some pics up. I'm really curious on the quality, fit and finish!

as am I and lots of others...can you take some pics of the reverse side? does that middle portion (the whole piece) come out?

What stereo/gps will be installed in these? I imagine each one is different sizes so are there many choices?

I recieved my Metra kit yesterday and the quality is as good as OEM. I bought a Metra kit from them a few years ago and it was perfect then .
They have all kinds of brackets and bezels for all kinds of stereos in the kit. They even have a detailed instruction book to show step by step how to remove/install the nav/stereo .The silver paint match is dead on too.
I'm going to try to find time to take out the stock Nav for pics and see about Kenwood or Pioneer wiring harness I would need. Installer.com tech support is over the top with stuff like that.I won't be installing a new Nav for a couple of weeks though.

I am hung up on waiting for this.....I am going to take a look at the wiring diagrams and see if there is any way to tie this into any of the head units that are available rather than reaching over and using the headunit
you can rewire your rear backup cam to some of the dvd video units and XM is available on many of the new head units..
There is nothing available to use the existing bluetooth controls on the steering wheel though...but there are several units that have integrated BT capabilities in them
I am going to be upgrading to a DVD Double DIN head unit with video out to the integrated monitors in headrests for the rear seats....
I have portable GPS units so don't need integrated...
For now, using stock speakers as I like them, but will be adding some anti-vibration materials to help with the rattle on some of the mounts...
Add a 500GB HD for music - much cheaper than a IPOD, an amp to clean up the signal to the speakers a bit, will also allow a simpler upgrade of the speakers in the future...
so many options, so little time...

If you have sony or pioneer this unit ties in your steering wheel controls.
I'm putting it in today. Hope to finish today, but it's a busy day. I'll keep you guys updated with pics and what not.

I am going to most likely mount the amp under the passenger seat (for airflow purposes and to keep the wiring job easier) or may consider building storage for the amp in the cargo area, which will make the wiring job more difficult...HD is going to be mounted in the cargo area connected into the system by the USB port in the back....actually considered building a SFF computer with monitor extensions to the rear headrests, but the idea of my two teenagers fighting over use ended that thought....will keep it to simple music drive...
ordered a bezel from onlinecarparts last night and it shipped this morning.. though the price more than doubled what is was before the production run was complete. =/ should have ordered sooner..
now, im on the hunt for a double din nav that does everything and integrates the backup camera into the HU screen..

The mic and steering controls have harnesses that route to the receiver. The receiver's bt commands the device. So, as long as you get a hu that has bt, then you can control the bt device with the existing controls--that is as long as you have a adaptor or hu to read the signals from the controls.
