Just got my Z120bt in yesterday, its pretty awesome. Now my question is, how did you guys do the backup camera on the screen and the mirror? The technician at best buy was telling me he didn't know how to integrate the two cause the line going into the back of the avic is a RCA and the other isn't.

I'm starting to get anxious - My Z120BT from Amazon got here yesterday but all of the wiring harnesses / dash kit / etc isn't expected to come in until Oct 12....torture....

I have a Pioneer AVIC-Z110 with bluetooth controls. The Metra ASWC works with the audio steering wheel controls as well as the blutooth controls.

The bluetooth controls did not work by default... I had to manually program the ASWC to send the proper blue tooth commands.

Manual configuration is in the installation instructions. It was a little tedious, but it only took about 5-10 minutes.

Okay, just so I understand, with the Metra harness you are able to use the three buttons on the right side of the steering wheel to answer, hang up, or activate voice command in addition to the av buttons on the left side? I am really trying to retain as much functionality of the OEM parts as I can. Also, did you manage to keep the factory mic and connect it to the HU. I would really like to keep the mic in the current location. Thanks.

those aftermarket stereos look great im thinking of buying one i really like the pioneer, but does any one know if any of this have a true GPS not just a nav, a gps that you can input waypoints save off road routs, etc like the Lowrance thanks

Am I to assume that we are unable to use the factory mic with aftermarket HU's? I've toyed with the idea of adding an aftermarket unit, but I'd like to utilize my factory mic/steering wheel controls/backup cam. Can all this be accomplished with just the wiring/pin diagrams? The factory NAV in this vehicle is pretty much worthless. Is a Toyota-issued firmware update wishful thinking?

I've found the factory mic to be pretty damn good, particularly when it comes to being truly full duplex. The bluetooth mic in my old Infiniti G35 was worse by comparison.

I heard the 4G's had some bluetooth bugs and don't know if found the fix. Just google "iphone 4g bluetooth problems" . I'm still using the old trusty jailbroken 3GS.
I hav'nt had any complaints and I can shoot you a pic where I my mic tomorrow if you want.

so i talked to a dealership parts/service dept about adding toyo nav to an SR5 after sale. good and bad news.

good news - it'll only cost $150 for installation including labor
bad news - the nav unit itself costs $4600 according to parts dept

i think i'll have to go w/ an aftermarket nav system like a pioneer z110BT which goes for $1500 including installation and all labor/parts

Id be willing to bet you can pick up a system on ebay for 500 or less over the next year. maybe.

looks like i managed to buy all the right harnesses and everything looks and sounds great...

- IPod Works
- Steering wheel controls work
- Sirius Radio works ( not using 'sharkfin' )
- OEM backup camera works and displays on HU and Mirror. You dont have to wait for the unit to boot to get an image.. if you start the truck and put it in reverse, you will see the camera display before the unit is normally done booting.
- Party Mode does not work but the new HU sounds better than party mode ever did!
- Metra Dash kit fits and looks great

now im debating on getting the 200$ z120bt upgrade disk, or just wait for one to hit the torrents.

I made the mistake of getting an amp/sub before replacing the HU... sounds like ass now but I'm definately thinking of getting the AVIC-Z110BT or the Z120BT... however I can't (like most) get over the dead spaces on the sides... maybe I could fabricate some switches/buttons fake (headlight mini guns/roof rack rockets ) or functional. Any help? Also what factory HU did you have to begin with? I currently have the non-JBL 8spkr.

I painted mine black and it really doesn't look that bad...flows a little better with the black HU so it doesn't look like so much open space

There is plenty of room behind the bezel to put some switches or such.

Or ,depending on how good you are at arts and crafts.I wrapped my plain silver pieces on the inside with black 3M Di-Noc carbon fiber vinyl wrap giving it texture. Texture makes it blend in better. It's really not that hard to install and if you heat it up it will come back off if you screw it up. 3M DI-NOC Carbon Fiber Vinyl

Best to take the pieces out to do it right. I still have to do my door handles but waiting til I take the door panels off to install my speakers and sound deadener.

Gauges! You can never have too many. Maybe a transmission temp and something else? Or as harper7 mentioned, switches.

I've got a question about the about the "Party Mode" switch. If you look at the electrical wiring diagram it appears that the party mode controls EITHER the tail speakers of the rear passenger door speakers.

When using an aftermarket head unit, do you lose functionality of the party mode? The reason I ask is the connector in the manual:

RELAY LOCATIONS (Passenger Side R_B Assembly) (2010 4Runner)

appears to be not co-located with the head unit. Does anyone know where this thing is? Reason being is I'll be putting shallow mount 8" subs in the tailgate and would prefer not to run the wires all the way to the front since Toyota has done it already for us. I'd like to just tap in as far forward as I can for the tailgate speakers. Any light shed on the party mode would be much appreciated.

Looking to upgrade to an aftermarket radio with all the bells and whistles in my wife's 3 week old SR5. The question I have is has anyone been able to use their factory satellite module with an aftermarket deck? ....and if so, which brand? This was one of two options we "fought" for, and I'd hate to have to replace it with another so soon after paying for this one!

Backup Camera Wiring

To hook up the backup camera you need to tap 3 wires on this plug. Lol, what a mess. Obviously I'm not a professional installer.

They are the red, black and white wires on the right of the plug when you are looking at it as in the picture above. The white and black wires get spliced into an RCA. The Red one goes to a 12v source.

I know the pictures are confusing so here is the wiring diagram, the plug is G20. I think your looking at the back of the stock deck in this picture so the three you want are the last three on the left in the bottom row of the G20.

Maybe your also suppose to ground it but I tried and it didn't make any difference. All I know is this worked for me. Hope this makes some sense.
