I am contemplating adding an aftermarket sunroof. I have located a couple of shops in the Atlanta area that do most of the dealer installations. I really want a huge one though. Does anybody make anything similar to the giant sunroofs found on the BMW X3 or X5 for aftermarket? That would be awsome. Would it be possible to retrofit one from BMW to the T4R roof? Am I nuts to think about this?
Aftermarket sunroof options...any really big ones?

I don't think you're nuts...BUT (here comes the killjoy) I'm always very apprehensive about after market sun roofs. First and foremost, they are basically punching a hole into your roof and headliner. There is no guarantee the parts they will use is fully compatible with your vehicle. Would it even fit with a sunroofless runner? I have two 4runners in my garage - one with a sunroof (SE) and the other without (SR5). the SR5's headliner has more room since there is nothing between it and the roof itself (no motor, railings, hardware, etc.). How would the installers accomodate for this smaller space between to fit all the hardware? Another concern I would have would be fitting issues, would it seal properly, leaks, and allow for proper drainage? Something to consider before you tear a hole in your $30k+ roof.

Are you nuts putting an after market on in your truck? Well, I sure as heck wouldn't. I've heard lots of anecdotal stories about them being terrible. Of course, I've got no first hand experience, but I've heard enough bad things that I wouldn't do it. There has to be some truth in it.
I know I wouldn't buy a vehicle with an after market one installed, if that makes a difference.

Dingo, they simply put fabric in, so yes it looks tacky. We had this done in our Sienna. The sunroof was nice, it was almost as big as the 4Runners, and it never leaked. The installers I used made completely sure that they did everything right, and there were no cutting corners. Only thing I didn't like was the headliner. It was just color coded fabric, not like how a factory sunroof is.
