Aftermarket transfer case

Ordered 10:1. Going to be completely redoing front suspension/steering/axles to add strength as well (upgraded rack and pinion, tie rods, RCV axles, knuckles...). Hopefully eliminating most of the weak spots. Expect build to start in 2-3 months so will bring more updates at that time.

Looking forward to seeing the results and the build. I'm going to push the lower arms forward with the JD Fab kit and stick some 35s in without messing with body mounts and pinch welds.

Who do you have doing in the install of the Atlas? Atlas has been giving us grief for almost 3 months about ordering the 4 speed.

I'll be redoing my front suspension soon too, but that's a story for another day.

Good thing you didn't order the Tacobox if you weren't aware of how long Marlin takes you'd be getting concerned it was an 8 month wait after they said it was in stock and taking full payment.

RCV had some challenges with manufacturing/parts this Summer. They took full payment in late June and the axles arrived yesterday--just shy of 5 months.

Hopefully you get yours quicker.

I think this is good advice. The typical dual case setup in most Toyota rock crawlers would be about a 2.4 to 1 first transfer case box and a 4.7 to 1 second box. In that situation you can either run in 2.4 , 4.7 or 11.5:1. I thinkyou'll be surprised how often you find yourself in the 10 to 1 gear. if I had that I would use it a lot more in the rocks.

one thing I think you'll need to consider, is that you will need to be careful using the traction control systems in the extra low ranges. ATRAC or MTS. I'm not sure anyone is really tested as fully, but it seems reasonable to me that the additional torque could result in breaking axle shafts. I've had that happen with the extra low cases and some slight brake application in my mini truck.

Who would go through all the time and $$$ for the TC work for rock crawling and not have lockers?

I use the traction control a lot. Even with lockers. Navigating tight trails in the rocks isn't so easy with the front locked. I took my front ARB out after replacing it twice. So I'm open front again now. But even with it available, it's pretty rare to engage the front in the rocks and you never leave it locked for long. More common to use on slippery stuff - mud, snow, or sand.

Bump for interest and any developments...

Has anyone installed an atlas TC in a 5th gen? If so, could you please direct me to threads, pics, links, vids of such?

Spoke to AdvanceAdapters today. They haven't started playing with a 5th gen yet. They plan to shortly but could not give a timeline. Trying reach out to a few more places to see if they have the confidence to tackle this but I think I'm going to be waiting for Atlas to either do a test fit or the Tacobox (whichever comes first).

Anyone spoke with them since then? Been about 2 years so hopefully they have done something for 5th gen since?
