Aftermarket wheel bearing?

i like the japanese parts too. in my case, i had to get the cheap ones since i don't want to spend any more money with my old 4runner. i don't intend to drive it for road trips anymore since my rear upper control arm frame connection is so rusted there's a hole in it. i only use it for local driving, getting groceries or something or just a backup car. all my insurance are now liability so i don't pay much for insurance. i'm surprised after installing it 2 years ago, the bearing is still good. cheap parts doesn't mean bad parts.

I wanted the Japanese bearings which is why I went the route I did.

As for the press, I use my HF press more often than I thought I would. Quite useful.

Understandable but it wasn't that much more for the Japanese bearing assuming I was pressing it in. This is my daily driver and I have a plow on the front of it so want a quality bearing.

Thanks for the Rock Auto suggestion, I just bought a SKF replacement from NAPA, Rock Auto has them at less than half the NAPA price. I'm going to retrun the NAPA and get 2 from Rock Auto

Honestly, I think the SKF unit uses a chinese bearing. Check for the ones stamped made in Japan like NSK. Much better quality.

Last I looked I couldn't find any hub assemblies on RA that had something stamped on the bearing so I assume all Chinese now. They don't list the Centric ones I mentioned earlier in this thread and the Beck/Arnley no longer is stamped per the pictures.

Buy the bearing and have a local shop press in your original axle stub. And it will be cheaper too. $55 for a bearing and $20 press work. Be sure they insert the bolts before pressing.

My reply was for others, both my front bearings are on the new side with decent brands.

That video is hard to watch for this shade tree mechanic. Yikes.

I replaced just the bearing on one and used a cheap HF press, not a hammer.

Part supply for knuckle/hub

My mechanic tried to press the bearing out of the hubs on my '99 4R 4WD with ABS. He could not get them out, and ended up damaging one of the hubs or knuckles, I'm not sure which. I'm looking for a quality supplier for the knuckle and hub. Driver and passenger side.

I purchased the SKF hub a year and a half ago and was able to confirm with an SKF engineer I work with that it is an SKF bearing assembly.

I wanted to go the Koyo route since it’s the oem bearing, but it was so much cheaper to do the skf route that I couldn’t justify Koyo + assembly costs (I didn’t have a press at the time)

I’d recommend the Koyo OEM route if you can, otherwise NTN and NSK are always great options. SKF is definitely a lesser bearing manufacturer, but for automotive bearings like these it isn’t that big of a deal.

Just make sure you’re buying from a distributor through legit channels. We’ve had huge issues with counterfeits in the supply chain lately.
