Aftermarket wheel bearing?

So my driver's side front wheel bearing is getting loud. Anyone have good luck with a specific brand of aftermarket bearing? I don't need one that will go 200k as this truck will be a pile of rust long before that. 50k would be nice but I've seen some that just don't last. Thanks.

Rockauto has a good selection. SKF has a good reputation. Some like Timken but I have had bad experiences with their wheel bearings, bad out of the box. Avoid chinese units.

Thanks guys, so is there a need to get the hub too on a 4x4 truck or is just the bearing fine? There seems to be more options than I'm used to here. :D
 
The hub bearing combo is easiest to replace. If you get just the bearing, you have to have a shop press the old one out and the new one in.

The combo you can replace with hand tools in a garage, just a time consuming job the first time.

Get the Beck Arnley (hub) from rockauto
 
Montijo, I do have a press but obviously quicker install to get a whole unit.

Thanks Warwicke. Odd thing on the Beck/Arnley is the ratings for them on Amazon are not very good.

From what I understand is it can be a pain to get it pressed correctly.

Buy the whole "unit" replacement, not just the bearing. Had this done on one bearing after 105,000 miles.

Simple job if you don't have to replace just the bearing. Bolt new one on. bolt old one off. Otherwise you need a "press"! And...

Go to rock auto.. Look for NSK brand, timken BCA... All seemed to be NSK brand with USA made bearings .. But key is to look at pics close close up.. Saids NSK, USA, JAPAN... And if no indication of country name.. Dont buy.. Its china crap..

I bought from amazon 2 nsk bearing for front wheel and 2 NSK rear hub assembly from rockauto for my seinna and it was labeled NSK, with usa made bearings. No problems so far.. Front has 90k miles. Rear is less then 5k miles so far.. Catch is if no country origin markings on bearing face, then its china junk bearings.. Even some timken are china nowadays.

I think you would be fine with the RockAuto brands mentioned above.

When I replaced my front wheel hub I bought one from NAPA, mainly because they have a "lifetime" warranty. If it fails prematurely I can take it back and get another one without having to mess with shipping. I only have 8,000 miles on it so far, but no issues yet.

Like I mentioned, I do have a press but would prefer a whole unit. I just can't seem to find any with name brand bearings.

This is good info but Rockauto only seems to sell the bearing itself not the hub assembly. Maybe I'll buy a cheapo and experiment on the old one.

I also see Detroit Axle units on Amazon for a decent price. Some comments say made in the US, others not. Hard to tell what is accurate. This is really taking longer than I'd like.

One other thing, I see some also come with an o-ring and oil seal. Ugh, decisions.
 
I did both front bearings and pressing them in and out wasnt too bad. One caution is to make sure you leave the plastic holder in while you press it. Otherwise the cone bearings will fall out. Get dirt in the bearing and you are screwed. The oem hubs are better than any aftermarket unit. I would buy the bearing and press it yourself.

Here is the dirty little secret of the bearing industry. Each manufacture doesnt make every bearing. For example I bought a SKF rear wheel bearing from Rockauto and when I got it, there was a koyo bearing in the box. So koyo supplies that bearing for SKF. As mentioned above, avoid Chinese parts.

This BeckArnley 0516444 front bearing on rockauto looks like its a KOYO bearing with seals.

More Information for BECK/ARNLEY 0516444

You will need the outer seal which goes on the bearing before you press in the hub. And dont forget to put the bolts in the bearing before pressing the hub in. You cant do it later.

Holy crap! I had to do something like this on my kids ‘11 explorer and after 4 hrs I gave up and just removed the whole hub carrier and pressed out the bearing off the truck. It took only 15 minutes to remove the bearing and I did not sweat one bit. Eric could have bought a new press, assembled the press and did the work in less time than he spend beating the piss out the bearing like he did.
 
Last week I ended up ordering the BECK/ARNLEY 0516470 with hub and seals from RA. I'll try pressing out the old bearing to see how doable it is, maybe get one prepped for the future.

As for getting it out, I've done it similar to ETCG multiple times on a GMC and too many to count on Jeeps.
