Aftermarket wheel owners...a question for you

Those with aftermarket wheels...are you able to run stock lugs? Or did you go with an aftermarket (Gorilla style) lug instead?

I ordered a set of Black Rhino's and I'm curious whether or not I'm going to need a slim-shank (acorn style) nut.

The lug nut is dependent upon the wheel. Stock wheels use a mag style lug nut.

I have 12X1.5 BLACK EXT ACORN WHEEL LUG NUT on my wheels

See what type of lug seat the wheels are using and purchase accordingly.

Almost all aftermarket wheels will require acorn type lug nuts. I would recommend Gorilla Extended Thread lug nuts. Most aftermarket wheels are thicker than Toyota wheels and the ET lug nuts can grab more threads and fit inside the wheel.

I also changed out my front studs with OEM rear studs (a couple mm longer) to get more thread engagement.

Unless your wheels are 106mm bore, you are going to also want to get centering rings to match the 106mm Toyota hubs, or you will have all kinds of wheel balance problems.

I'm not sure the stock lugs would even fit with a wrench in mine so I'm on black gorilla splined lugs. Level 8 MK6.

I'm running Muteki SR48 open ended extended lugs. Ran them on my Infiniti G37 too. Great looking lugs. Although my blue set is starting to wear the finish off. Just have to be careful with the wrenches.

Open ended lugs are a good idea if the stud exceeds the end but the down side is that rust and corrosion can make it a pain to disconnect. I have heard some horror stories from people in corrosive environments.

You cannot use stock lugs on an aftermarket rim. I am running Gorillas on mine from Les Schwab along with wheel locks.
