I think he is talking about the Intake Resonator Box, but its hard to be certain.

that thing, not where the filter goes. i've read through some of those tutorials and didn't see anything about free or cheap horsepower gains.

Do a search for Deck plate mod. And ISR mod. And an "O" gasket mod.

It's going to be hard to add power, really.
Deck plate, ISR, elbow removable, and a more beefy soundin muffler will give you the biggest illusion of power, for your buck.
For any real gains you'll big looking at good bit of money, and a good bit of a PITA.
