I'm looking into getting a new air compressor - intended use is for airing up tires on my truck after a day on the trails. I run 32" tires and am looking for a fast and reliable compressor to replace the cheap and slow one I have now.
I would like to permanently mount it in the rear cargo area (how exactly is a bit unclear, any ideas are welcome) and then run a 25' hose (w/ quick disconnect) to air the tires up. Not looking for an air tank setup and am not interested in CO2.
I am thinking of Viair and right now am not entirely sure what would work better, either the 400p or the 400h. As far as I can tell they are the same compressor, just the 400p comes with all the accessories (hose, guage, etc) for the same price as the 400h which is compressor only. The 400p has alligator clamps to connect to the battery and the 400h is hardwired.
Would it work to get 400p for lower price (comparatively considering it comes with the hose, etc) and cut off the clamps and get some extra wire to hardwire it to the battery? Would I need to put a switch in between the two or would the on/off switch of the 400p be fine? The other logic for putting in a second switch (in drivers area) is if there is gear in the back and the compressor is hard to reach, I could have an easy access on/off (ignoring concerns with airflow to the compressor if its buried in gear and getting hot! - something else to figure out). Please excuse my complete lack of electrical knowledge.
