Air compressor

I'm looking to install ARB lockers in both ends of my '97 4runner. I'm looking for a compressor that's up to the task of actuating the lockers and filling my tires from a 2 gallon tank. Can anyone recommend a compressor or kit?
I hear good things about viair compressors and they don't appear to be bank breakers.

Your thoughts?

Why not use ARBs compressor? I haven't heard many bad things about them

A portable compressor is going to get you maybe 150 PSI. There's not enough air in a 2 gallon tank at 150 PSI to even come close to inflating your tires.

I have a Viair 90p. Inflating my 33s from 15 to 35 PSI is a long wait, so whatever you get you'll want bigger than that. My suggestion would be a 5 ga CO tank for tire inflation and then mount a little Superflow MV-50 to actuate the lockers. Carry a long air hose so you can use the compressor as a backup tire inflater.

I run the arb hi output dual OBA system. It makes quick work of inflating tires without an extra tank at all. Has no trouble engaging the lockers either, of course I don't believe that requires a lot of work from a compressor anyway.

downside is the price I purchased mine with my front and rear lockers so I said hell whats another 500 bucks anyway lol. Another downside to this compressor I can add is size. It's not practical to mount under the hood or in a concealed location its rather large. I have mine mounted on a piece of plywood in the back cargo area that I'll eventually use as a base for a cargo draw system, boxing in the compressor to alleviate some noise in the cab in the process.

I have an ARB compressor and have used it to inflate my tires many times in a pinch.
It mounts under the hood and has standard hose connect. But I wouldn't use constantly to fill a tank, it's not meant for that.

As for PSI rating of a compressor, it's not an important factor when it comes to inflating tires, it's CFM that matters. Your only filling your tires to 35 PSI or so. It's the higher CFM rating that will do it faster. Look for a compressor with a high CFM.

The Viair's are decent, but so's the Master Flow MV-50 for a lot less.

I know this is an old thread, but you wouldnt happen to have any pictures of the arb twin compressor would you? I am thinking about picking one up, but only if i can mount it in the engine bay. Ideally i would put it right behind the stock v8 airbox. Is it really that big that it cant be put in that space in any way? Thanks.

There's some pics on my build thread of the compressor mounted in my cargo area. If there's a will there's a way for sure but I didn't want to go through the hassle of making a complex mounting bracket and moving everything in the area enough to squeeze it in.

I've heard way more quiet vi-air air compressors though and you can easily manifold two together. Just some food for thought

Yea I'm not trying to do anything too crazy either, but I'd prefer a single system vs two manifolded together. That's why the twin looks enticing. I was actually thinking about buying the dual battery bracket and simply drilling holes in to it to mount the compressor, but the problemo is that I don't know if that will even work lol. Guess I might just to take the plunge and see what happens.
