Then spend time, gas, money to get the tank refilled? Not to mention having space to strap it down while wheeling so it doesn't go ka blamo! And initial cost of the tank, regulator and hose and mount/ tie down.
10# tank will fill about 8 tires? And then cost $10 to fill?
I think $250 one time investment on a compressor that takes up less space is a far better idea. Not to mention you can let you friends mooch off of it at trails end too.
But that's my experience, I've never wheeled with anyone that had a tank to air up tires.
I used to think the same way. Bought the Viair 10007 (? Off of memory) .. 3 trips later I pieced together a CO2 kit for under $200 and haven't looked back. I also have the mount, made by powertank ($60ish), mounted to my roll cage.
After 5 trips (20 tire fills), I swing by the local airgas and swap the tank out for another, takes me 10 mins and $28.
Its definitely not for everyone.. especially if youre airing down so much that it hurts the wallet. I usually trailer my truck, so I rarely air back up these days.. but prior to that, it cost me (worst case) $28 every couple of months.
Can take it out of one vehicle and put it in your dd for long trips, just in case..
Pros/cons to both setups.
Not going to go on a rant about it, just giving the op a different option that worked better for me.
Edit... 20 minutes to fill up tires doesnt sound too bad on paper. But after a long day of wheeling and its hot/cold as f*** outside, and you're squatting down at each tire for 5 minutes.. gets old quick. Then you let your buddy air up their tires... that's 40 minutes lol. Id already be at home having myself a beer.
