Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1)

I have error p1135 popping up with the check engine and traction control lights. I cleared it out, but it comes right back. It looks like I need to replace the Air-Fuel Ratio (A/F) Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 1). The Bosch part # is 13613. Does anyone have any suggestions on where to get this the cheapest and directions on how to replace the part. I would appreciate it.

alright, i just had to do this a few months ago

first off, dont buy bosch for this application, go directly to toyota and buy it from them. it was like 256 or something when i got it. as for installing it, it takes two bolts and 20 minutes. you might want to soak it with some penetrating foam (pb blaster) to make the bolts easier to remove.
 
As mentioned above... don't buy Bosch!

Sparkplugs.com sells Denso (which is what you'll get from the dealer), at much better prices than the dealerships. You'll also need a new O2 sensor gasket and two new O2 sensor nuts from the dealer.

Replacement is easy. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the two nuts holding the sensor in (will be the hardest part of the job if you live anywhere that vehicles rust), clean the flange on the exhaust pipe a bit, install a new gasket, install new sensor and torque nuts (depending on vehicle, it will be somewhere around 13-15 ft-lb), reconnect the electrical connector, clear the codes and start the vehicle for your test ride.

Autozone pulled the code for me, P1135

So This sensor is on the Exhaust before the Cat?

Also, Is that code only for that one sensor?

Go to the dealer to take care of this. Mine cost $237 for the part and the labor.

I had to replace mine.

It is the Air Fuel Ratio Sensor, which is very specific. Bank 1 sensor 1. It is the very first sensor in front of the cat.

I would also recommend doing it yourself, but I gave up after I bought the incorrect sensor the first time and about killed myself trying to figure out why it wasnt working.

Kindof have to bite the bullet on this as far as cost goes.

If your vehicle has California emissions exhaust then the sensor in question is an Air/Fuel Ratio Sensor. If the vehicle is NOT Cali emissions then it is an O2 Sensor. Lots of people buy the wrong sensor first including myself, but it literally takes 10 minutes to change out.
I got my new Denso sensor from URD and they charged me the O2 sensor price for the A/F sensor that I needed, saving me about $100.

Do you have a part number for a non-Cali 4Runner?

Where is URD?
 
do you have two cats or one? if you have two, its an AF sensor, if you have one, its an O2 sensor, either way, go to the dealer, tell them what code you have and your VIN number and they will get you the right part
 
Error code P1135 is for the A/F sensor. Actually, it is for the heater circuit on the sensor, which gets the sensor up to temperature quicker for more accurate readings while the engine is cold. Most times the sensor itself is working fine, so no difference in fuel consumption is noticed.

It should be this one part number 234-9002 from URD which is the expensive one at $171. I recently had to change mine (it's the second time i replace one, first time was on my buddy's 4Runner). i bought mine from sparkplugs.com for $153. The job literally takes about 15 mins. autozone or similar stores will want to charge you $300+ for the sensor and it's probably the same at the dealer.

I have been riding around with the check engine light and other lights on and now Im glad I didn't order the wrong part... so its the $171.00 one?
 
for the P1135 error it is usually the expensive one. to be completely sure just get under ur 4runner on the passenger side and look to see if you have 2 cats and 2 sensors. if you do, then the error is definitely for the expensive one.
 
nvm i got it lol...my af sensor only cost $160 shipped..if you need one ill tel ya where igot it from..
