Does anyone have info. on:
Secondary Air injection system?
I have a error code 2440
It Says the valve is stuck open on bank 1
It also has my traction control lights coming on and i can only accelerate very slow and get to a top speed of around 45mph.
This started a few days ago when at first when started cold i would get a med. pitch whine around the front of the intake for about 45 seconds then it would go away, no lights would come on and would drive fine after a few days the service lights came on and my programs begain, i could clear the codes and it would run fine till it was started cold.
Thanks Steve

A update to my problem Picked of a Air valve for Bank 1 today, Pulled the Head after rechecking the flow chart on the componets still ok, What is strange is that both air valves would hold a vacume and i could hear the pistion inside moving, decided to check the air pump, i put 12 volts ti it and it was very loud. took it off and took it apart i found that over 1/2 of the plastic pump vanes were proken off and there was a lot of plastic peices in the pump checked the pressure valve and found that it had peices in it also.
Next i will have to check the two air valves maybe that is wh i am geting a code of 2440 valve stuck open.
My thought is if the pump was not plowing air is it fooling the pressure valve and making it think that the air valve is open which in fact it was not, just the pump not plowing air.
Do you think i have a case with toyato on a defective part whick should not have done that?
Steve

Update Toyota is now interested in a closer inspection of the pump a rep is coming into the dealer to have a look.
Will keep you pisted.

Update
After the rep. took a look at my problem, Toyota decided to cover the job under warranty, they replaced all 5 components of the emission system.
Thanks to my Service Mgr.

Good info, great updates, '05 4Runner... V6 or V8? Must be a V8. I haven't noticed an air pump on my V6.

Toyota 4 runner 2005 v8, 4.7 liter codes p14441 & P14444

Now it switched codes p14441 & p14444 valves are shut open
Checked fuses, have coolant temp, have outside temp. Got power back by removing vacuum electrical connectors and pulling battery terminal. Must have gone closed. I have yet to hear noises with a cold start. Mike

Tundra and Sequoia Fixed!

Here's some interesting news for what Toyota has done for owners of other models with this problem.

This program will extend the warranty on air induction pump assemblies and air injection switching valves for the condition described to 10 years from the date of first use or 150,000 miles, whichever comes first. These vehicles were previously covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. When the condition is verified, the dealer will replace the air injection pumps and air switching valves in the affected vehicles. Owners of Tundra and Sequoia models covered by this extended warranty will receive an Owner Letter via first class mail with details about the Customer Service Program. There are approximately 477,000 Tundra (2007 to 2010 Model Year) and 57,000 Sequoia (2008 to 2010 Model Year) vehicles covered by this Customer Service Program. Please note that damage incurred by accidents, abuse, vandalism, or similar events are not covered by the New Vehicle Limited Warranty or the Warranty Extension.

In response to reports of air induction pump assemblies and/or air injection switching valves issues on their 2007-2010 Tundra and 2008-2010 Sequoia models, Toyota has decided to increase its warranty on these parts and is even offering a reimbursement if you already had this issue fixed

P1442/p1445/p2441 secondary air injection system 05 t4r v8

I have the same issues of what you have, p1442 switching valve no.2 bank 1 stuck close. Got an estimate on part alone is over$1k. I don't know if it is advisable to use a used part or an aftermarket part. I have 130k miles on it on the body( we replaced the engine last month with 58k miles engine after we have a cylinder head issues)I have been driving it for only 400 miles after we replaced the engine last month. I have no codes before we replaced the engine, now I have 3 codes( all emission codes). In this situation is this still covered by any warranty(I have a 05 t4r v8 limited 4.7L engine, which I think is the same engine used in Tundras, that's also experiencing the problem based on reading the t4r forum). The truck runs good, I don't know if these codes can affect the drivability of the truck, or affect the engine reliability or affect any parts of the engine including the exhaust system specially the catalytic converter if I continue driving it. Also, the 2 other codes(p1445 and p 2441) r secondary codes caused by the first code as diagnosed in the dealership. Before I changed the part I m trying to do some searching to find out if we r in the right direction. Since we changed the engine before it might be a vacuum issue, maybe the mechanic accidentally put in the wrong vacuum hose( just my opinion) . I m n North Jersey any good mechanic with T4R experience. Need some help , I love my truck.

Update to the p1442/1445/2441 codes. Went to dealership to finally confirm what the real problem is with my 05 Toyota 4runner V8 engine, left the car overnight and they finally isolated it to the air pump failure. Also, the pressure valves need to be replaced in both banks. These are all emission parts and they are very expensive, dealer quoted $2300 for parts and labor. Per dealership, there is no effect on engine performance because they are all emission tbls( it will fail emission inspection on your next visit with DMV if u have these codes), my next inspection is in another 23 mos. I automatically called TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER at 800-331-4331 option 4 and talk to a rep, so they can build a case on this problem: my case # 1208170601. I am requesting those who have 4runners having these problem(codes) call Toyota at the above# so we can build a big case on this, let it be known to them that these problems also happen not only on Tundras which uses the same engine but to the 4runners too with V8 engines (4.7L)they extended the warranty for Tundras to 10 yrs and 150,000 miles. The more people call, the more cases they have is a good way of addressing this issue. The plastic part of the air pump keeps on deteriorating as time goes by that affects the pressure valves, that means if u replaced the air pump and valves today, in 3 to 5 yrs you have to deal with the same problem again and you will spend a fortune again. So if you have friends or know anybody with 4runners pls pass along my experience to them, so we can help each other to resolve this issue

My '06 just threw the P1442 and P1445 codes at 53k. Dealer will be replacing the valve and pump, but fortunately it's covered by Toyota CPO warranty. Just hoping this will be the last of it.

Same issue as yours .. Toyota will not help..

I have the same exact issue as yours. Read more here ..

Toyota V8 air injection system

Anyone who has had the P1442 / P1445 error code indication an issue with air injection system, please comment on this link on Toyota's wall so they get their act together and fix what seems to be a defect. Below is the link...

Same issue only 74K miles

I have same bad news and verified with dealer. My question is how can I fool the computer into thinking the system is ok. I don't care about cold start emissions I live in Florida. The air pump and sensors must send signals (open/close) to computer. They can be bypassed. I seriously doubt Toyo will extend this to 4runner owners with V8s. That will be a cold day in H!#

Hey guys... I have been selling a module that will bypass the Air Induction Systems for a while now. They work on ALL of the Toyota 4.7 and 5.7L engines (4-Runner, Tundra, Landcruiser, Sequoia and Lexus 470 and 570. I have sold a few to 4-runner guys and one of them emailed me to tell me I should post over on the 4-runner forum. I do not like to cross link forums but it is the easiest way to share the info. Everyone has been very happy with them. You can check the original thread out here:
Toyota 4.7L,5.7L Air Induction System Bypass Module
I hope this helps you guys out some.

I will start a new thread on this forum if it helps. I will try to check this site for PMs as often as possible but emailing me any questions or if you want to order one is the best way to reach me.

Fellas, I had this same issue, although intermittently, on my 2005 V8 a few weeks back.....started researching all this crap and went ahead and did the mod similar to "Stevj" over on Tundra Solutions. I am by NO MEANS the brains behind these mods, stevj and "pxsp" as posted above are.
I did the relay(stevj version) found here(link no longer exists)and wiring this weekend and have enough leftovers to build 4 of the sets for anybody to do this mod if they want to. (I have since ordered many more parts to help folks out).....email me at [email protected] if you would like a kit.

If you catch this early.....it's my understanding you will never need the blockoff plates as described in the other posts. After doing this, your Air Induction Valves(and Pump)for this emissions system will never be "told" to turn on (just like system does stock if Air Temp is under 41F). If they are never told to work......they can't get stuck open or closed.....

Catch this early and you save yourself some headache!

Sequoia 2005 injector pump

Started my 2005 4.7L V8 Sequoia on Thursday morning to a series of warning lights displayed. Engine was louder than normal, proceeded to drive it to the local garage . Acceleration was very sluggish and could not get above 20mph. He did a diagnostic check on the truck and pulled a bunch of code messages. Said they had never seen this code before and explained that it was a faulty air intake valve. I was quoted a price of $2,400 for parts , labor to repair. I'm aware of the extended warranty for the same issue of 10yrs/150k miles on the Sequoia/Tundra's with an identical 4.7L V8 engine. Contacted Toyota corp at 1-800-331-4331, option 4, and explained the situation. I was extremely disappointed in the response I received, which basically consisted of there was nothing Toyota would do to stand behind their defective product. I am the original owner of this truck with 115k miles and have very good maintenance records. From what I was told by the service adviser, there was no preventative maintenance that would've avoided this from happening. I've read enough posts about this same issue to convince me that Toyota's problem with their air intake valves goes beyond specific models and should encompass anything with the 4.7L V8, as it appears to be a design problem with their engine. Dependability, excellent customer service, and standing behind their product were sales slogans that were used when I purchased my Sequoia in December of2004. Based on this experience, I will NEVER purchase another Toyota. They really let me down and I'm very disappointed in the stance they are taking with this known problem. I intend on sharing my experience with anyone considering a Toyota vehicle.

FYI this mod is V8 only and I THINK 2005+ (no air pumps before then??)
This mod will eliminate P0418, P0419, P2445, P2447 if existing. And if done before valve banks get permanently stuck(open or closed) it will prevent P2440, P2441, P2442, P2443. I had a P2441 that would come and go and I could start hearing my air pump get louder and louder at startup.

The "kit" will include:
-relay(must have an 87a as pointed out in PDF) (PITA to find in my area, had to order)
-2 Posilock mini connectors for the MAF Temp splice(if you've never used these they are NICE.....pricey....but nice!)
-2, 2 conductor cables(1 you will route from air box area, up along firewall, down by brake booster and into Fuse Box, the other is a short cable that powers the relay for a short time during startup)
-5 Female Spade connectors to crimp cables and connect to relay
-1 4.7KOhm resistor
-piece of sticky back velcro to mount relay inside fuse box(it fits in the 4runner box on its side.....unlike the tundra box might not have room per the PDF)
- 6 black "Zip Ties" to secure cable
- My tech support:)

If anyone is interested, the kits are $35 shipped.
If desired, I will make up the entire kit, crimp connectors and do everything but the splice of the MAF cable(since I'm not AT your house:) for an additional $5

Best to reach me at [email protected] and put something like 4Runner MAF Mod or something in the title.

I'll also answer any questions if anyone needs help doing this.

AND OF COURSE you know this is an offroad only mod!

Wow I wish I would have known this about a week ago could have saved me 2400$$

I have a 2006 v8 4Runner. After having removed the intake manifold to replace the starter, I seem to be stuck in "limp mode". I have code P2433, which I guess means I might have messed with the secondary air system. Will the bypass fix this code as well? And if so, I'm ready to purchase one.
BTW, I also have had a code 0430 for the last five years, which I can get to go away by running at higher RPMs for a short span (but not now while stuck limping). Of course the by-the-book techs at Toyota think I should replace the Cat.
