Air intake box brackets broken (2001 SR5)

Two of the attachment brackets are broken off (see pic). Two questions:

1) which models/years use the same box, so I can check the junkyard?

2) in the meantime, how would you fix it? I'm thinking to affix a piece of strapping to the broken ends and the bolt attachment point. Any other thoughts?

I have that bottom piece broken in the same fashion as well as the rear bracket break completely off, leaving a giant hole. Personally I left it - taped up the hole and put some foam on the bottom to keep it quiet - because it's now sooo much quicker to remove from the engine bay when need be (and new air boxes are like $150 from a dealer). The brackets are just there to keep it from moving around and rattling, nothing real crucial. All V6 3rd gens used the same air box so you shouldn't have much trouble finding one from a junk yard if you're set on replacing it
It'll be fine as is but if you want it a little more secured, you could drill a hole in that upper bracket and run a zip tie through there and the corresponding bolt hole. Could also clean up the break some and epoxy on some plastic or metal to make an extension; when you think about it the bracket is just an arm with a hole in the end, and a replacement wouldn't have to be any more complex than that. It just comes down to how clean you want it to be

Tacomas with the 3.4l V6, I think the years are 1999-2003

I broke mine too but difference was that mine left a hole at the bottom with no threads. Taping it was my only option as Devbot said too. I'm sure any V6 box from the 3.4 4Runner would work.

So actually, I pulled one from a 1996 Ltd, and it is different--there's an extension arm that runs near where the MAF is mounted, and the MAF mounts onto a separate cylinder that is not part of the box.

I decided to just repair mine. Will post a more detailed description later, when I have the time.

That's exactly how mine is on my 2000 Sport (at least I'm fairly certain but it's been a while since I've looked) so it must've been an 01-02 change if anything, though it doesn't ring a bell. Wouldn't surprise me regardless as there were lots of little changes made then which included other things being integrated
With all that said, it should still work. I don't see why it wouldn't :shrug:

Well done! I just finished fixing mine, decided it was a good project to learn about "plastic welding" and such. I'll post about it soon.

So here are pics of both boxes, the 2001 is #6212 (left) while the 1996 is #6208 (right) just showing the MAF area which is the only difference.

I'm assuming the one in my 2001 is original, but will have to look it up to verify. But as you can see, they differ enough that they are not directly interchangeable--but there's a big caveat: the 96 box I got from the junkyard didn't have the MAF attached, so it's likely that if I had gotten that part as well, then it would work. The piece the MAF attached to is integrated on the 2001 model, but separate and detachable on the 96.

lol, so I'm the only one who just drilled a hole and ran a zip-tie through the hole and around the fastener? I've reused the same ziptie for the 3 airbox removals I've done recently.
