Air Intake Issue

Howdy,

I have an intake leak. The narrow OEM "hose clamps" are maxed out and not tight.

I can't find these anywhere and using typical hose clamps may not be sealing properly either as they don't fit in the groove.

Are these Toyota specific clamps? Any way to get better ones?

Also the tubes look a little dry. Anyone ever replace them? If so could you suggest a source.

Sorry for the poor description...

It's the ~3" wide air in take from air filter/MAF and into throttle body.

You ncan see where I added 2 classic hose clamps but it still sucks a little air. I think the larger hose clamps are right on the edge and don't allow a firm grip. Moving them up to where the narrow ones are they would be compressing the edges of the groove the narrow ones fit in and I doubt they would get a good bite there either.

Part of it is I think my tubes are drying out and not as supple as they used to be and as a result not squishing down quiet snug with the weak narrow clamps.

Well, you would need to move the new clamps to where the old clamps were otherwise they aren't going to work like they should. Mine ripped where it connected to the throttle body. Old rubber will do that eventually.

yea that's the problem. There are grooves/ridges that the narrow band fit. When trying with the wide clamps there they kind of crush the ridges instead of snugging up the hose. I get the impression if I continue to torque and it doesn't solve the problem I will surely ruin the hoses....

I just need to either find new hoses or clamps and see if I can get an OEM fit.

Any opinions on the Airaid 510-934 M.I.T. Modular Intake Tube?

I was just doing a search to replace the tubes and clamps and stumbled on this. Seems to get decent reviews and not cause issues....

Looks like it replaces the air box that goes before the throttle body.... that thing always bugged me anyway.. $100 is steep but I'm sure the OEM or even new replacement would be close to that as well.

Mine were loose also so what I did was cut the head off of a zip tie and put it under the clamp. It gives you more room to tighten the clamp but it is still held in the groove, 1 year and no problems and the clamps haven't loosened up again.

I did this exact fix but think my tubes are too stiff to respond... I ordered an Airaid this morning.
