Airaid Jr. Installed Today

Installed a Airaid Jr. with a SynthaMax oil free filter on my 97 SR5 this afternoon. I've had the deck plate mod for a while and have used a traditional air filter. I figured the two would compliment eachother and decided to spend the cash. Here's the pros and cons.

Disclaimer: I am not a mechanic, but I play one on T.V., and I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

Pros - High quality air filter, washable, oil free.
Cleans up the engine area with less clutter.

Cons - Can't say there's any noticible gains in acceleration.
Not sure if it's worth $179.99??

If I had to do it over again would I spend the money? Meh....I dunno.

I was just looking at these the other day cause my stock tube is ripping apart and held together with duct tape.. Even though it looks like good quality and does come with a new filter, I think I rather spend $180 on something else. Guess I will just make my own intake tube.

Wow, those have gone up in price! I put mine in about '06 and it was only $80. I agree though, cleans things up but didn't gain any performance not that I expected much anyway.

I'm diggin the not so cluttered look under the hood and the quality filter, so I can't be too disappointed. Knowing what I know now, I would have been happier spending the money on some junk silver instead.

I had that tube on my first t4r. Honestly I liked it, it was a cleaner approach to the ISR mod which is essentially the same thing just a much nicer molded piece for those who don't want a metal pipe there or those who don't want to do the work. I don't remember what I paid back then but it wasn't much im sure.

Looks like something that could easily be replicated with a piece of the correct diameter exhaust tubing and a silicone coupler.

What material is the filter media made of?

When I installed mine, I definitely noticed an off-the-line throttle response difference. Also, a little more then a mile per gallon increase (this is tested at cruise at the same speed on the same trip; consistent over several different speeds and multiple trips (I drive the same trip to the beach almost every weekend and pay attention to fuel mileage, etc.))

Also, ZERO difference between deck plate in and deck plate out, before and after intake. The only difference came from the tube.

I installed mine a bit over a year ago and it is part of the best thing I have done to my 4Runner.
Between the Airaid kit which number one gave me a much better Air Filter than the K&N that was in it, K&N does not make a filter that really fits the 4Runner its just some skinny little thing with an ignorant plastic cage that sorta makes it fit.
The oil less Airaid Filter is definitely better, far more surface area and actually fits, compared to a K&N price thats worth $50 right there.
The Airaid gets rid of that useless Silencer in the stock intake that does nothing in particular but disrupt air flow.
I can feel that the engine breathes better without it.
Throttle response is way better.
It looks better than stock.

But the best thing is that combined with new freer flowing muffler plus the Airaid I am getting about 1.5-2mpg better gas milage on the highway.
I installed mine just before a close to 8000 mile 27 day trip.
I figure I saved about $133-$140 in fuel savings on that one trip which virtually paid for the Airaid in the first month. I paid $158 for mine.
