Great info and build. I'm up the way from you in Raleigh currently undergoing my SAS and motor swap. I just tore down my axle and sandblasted everything for painting. It looks like it just came from the factory, completely rebuilt. Let us know the difference the rebuild feels like! Also, would love to meet up at URE sometime.

What motor are you swapping in? I would love to have a 3.4, but the 22re is working fine for me. I don't plan to go much farther into this build anyway, I just want it to hold me over until I am ready to turn my Tacoma into a trail rig but that is probably a few years from now.

We definately need to meet up at URE this season!

Alright I got some more done today. I got the driveshafts out and removed the driveline e-brake so I can drop the t-case hopefully next weekend.

Next I worked on the HP 3rd. Unfortunately it did not drop right in like many say. I had to spend 5 min. with a grinder to clearance the housing. I elongated the top and bottom notches, and clearanced 4 spots on the sides of the housing where the bearing cases slide in. I used a magnet to remove the shavings after the grinding was complete.

Then I swapped the spooled 3rd for the Spartan locked 3rd out back.

Yes it can but the housing has to be notched for the locker motor.

On a solid axle, yeah.

1uz-fe. I had a 3.4 supercharged with full exhaust, URD fuel upgrade, and anything else you could do, and in the end, I wasn't satisfied with the power. So I went with the 4.0 v8 lexus with an eaton M112 this time. I have a build thread a few down from this one.

I have been getting more done on this POS. I realized I was missing an index washer for the spindle nuts (don't you love paying people to work on your vehicle?), so I am waiting on parts from rockauto.com.

I got the frame Por-15ed, now I just need to top coat with some Rustoleum.

I got the trunnion bearing eliminator pins swapped into the steering arms.


Then I cleaned up the knuckles. They are going to get painted with red Rustoleum, and ARP steering arm studs are going in them.

I did not expect to have this budget at this time last year. Work picked up and stayed up all year, I worked some crazy hours and now I get to play

Thank you, I am glad you like it. I get stares everywhere I go around town

I got a little more done, just getting ready to put the front back together hopefully next weekend.

I put the TB eliminator washers into the knuckle balls and replaced the inner axle seals.


Then I painted the knuckles, and swapped in all the ARP studs (hub and steering arms)



Painted the dual case crossmember and the 4xinnovations engine and case mounts.

Its hard to tell in that pic but the dial on the left is from an IFS hub. I have no idea how and why.
