Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail *UPDATED*

November 12, 2016;

I was not all that happy with how the images posted with the site uploader so I educated myself on how to post better. In the process I re-wrote some of the text and more pictures have been added. New video below as well. We are working on a longer video of the trip and hopefully will have it done soon.

Hi all;

This past August myself and 3 friends tackled the Alexander Mackenzie Heritage Trail in BC, Canada. I will be posting a trip report and lots of pictures but in the mean time here is a short video.

The blow down was not so bad but there was a couple of groups ahead of us this year. Sounded like the first group had a lot of clearing. But even with a couple of weeks between us and the previous group there was still some clearing to do. Biggest issue for us was the water level was quite high on the Blackwater river.

I am only aware of there 2013? trip. Did they go again this year?

I think they did it in 2013 with their Alaska- Yukon series, not more recently. If they have done it more recently it's not on their website.

djo.bike - very nice! I'll be looking for your pics and trip report. Also, god job on the shortness of the video. Piques interest but doesn't drag on like so many people's videos do.

On with the pictures and report

First time putting a report together so if anyone has any tips on how to make this better let me know. One question, how do I find my thread without looking for it in the main thread list?

On with it......

The most of the first day was spent driving to Quesnel. We were traveling from the Edmonton Alberta; the others were coming in from the West Kootenay's, BC.

The Cast:




Jeep XJ - Mark | 5th Gen 4runner - Dan (op) and Jenn | 40series Land Cruiser – Alex | 3rd Gen 4runner - Aaron and Cassidy (trail companion)




Once in Quesnel we did some last minute errands, filled up on gas and had supper.




As the sun began to set we headed out to Snaking River recreation site via the Nazko Road. Arriving in the dark we quickly set up camp and went to sleep.

Subscribe to it. There are two ways to do this. Under your "control panel--->edit options---> default thread subscription mode" you have a setting you can turn on that automatically subscribes you to any thread you start or post in. You can opt for email notices of replies or no email notices. See how someone just posted in your thread "subscribed"? That's because he has automatic subscription to threads he replies in set up and by posting, he gets the thread on his list. The second way is to go to 'thread tools' which is on the top right of the page, just under the advertising header. Pull it down to 'subscribe to this thread'. This is useful for other people's threads that you may not want to post in, but still want to watch for replies.

Once you are subscribed, when you come to the forum, just click on 'User Control Panel' in the upper left corner and it will show you a list of threads you have subscribed to with new replies. Sometimes if you open the CP up and see there are threads with replies, but don't view them right away, they "go away" in the sense that the forum thinks you have viewed them and has removed them from the 'unread thread' que. You can view all the threads you are subscribed to by clicking "view all subscribed threads".

Next time you guys do something like this, let me know. I'm up in Peace River and could meet you along the way somewhere.
 
Day Two

Snaking River recreation site to Kluskoil Provincial Park recreation site

Eager to get to Titetown Lake we packed up and headed up Nazko Road. We stopped at the hiking signpost for a photo before making our way to Titetown Lake crossing.




Crossing at Titetown was straight forward. A little further along a beaver had built a dam on the downstream side of the trail; flooding and washing out the trail. On the far side was a steep rutted exit. Aaron went first, the 3rd gen, and with little effort made it through and up the other side. I went second, 5th gen, and got high centered on the exit. (I made the decision to go with 31” tires as they were practically brand new and didn’t have the extra money for 33”, looking back that was a mistake.) We winched me out of the ruts. The LC and Jeep followed and had no problems.
















The rest of day we meandered through the forest. The trail was a series of rocky sections, small water crossings and a few stretches of meadows. There was very little deadfall to clear but lots of evidence of prior groups doing some.

Day 2 continued

We ended our day at Kluskoil PP recreation site. Camp set up was quick and in no time we had a nice fire going and beers in hand.

Looks like they attempted it again more recently. They released a new trailer today.
