All door locks grenaded

The time has finally come that all my door locks except for the liftgate are DOA.

I have to lock and unlock them manually.

I have been quoted ridiculous amounts of money to replace the 99 cent RC car servo motor that actuates the lock, and was wondering if anyone had come up with a quick fox that doesn't involve taking all 4 doors apart.

Yep. Just buy the whole actuator assembly and swap it out. The cheapo ones are like $35 a piece, the better ones are more like $120-$180 a piece.

I just used one last month from Standard Motor Products on family Jeep #2. Thing fits and works perfectly.

Anyway you slice it, I think the door is going to need to come apart. Just the panel, it's no big deal.

Also, there are threads here that deal with changing the actuators out with pictures, instructions, how to take the doors apart, where to get parts, etc. Just do a search here and pick out what you want.

Yeah, I did this once for the driver's door and it involved taking the entire thing apart, was hoping that someone had figured out a shortcut.

if you don't want to take something apart, just replace the entire part

don't want to take the actuator apart, replace the actuator

$35 vs $5 each door to save you about 10 minutes

Either way - you're taking the door apart to some extent. Our 2013 hasn't had this problem yet; but I copied the info for when I need it.

Did this happen all of a sudden (all 4 doors acutators) or did each of them go out over time ?

The front passenger side went out under warranty at around 2 years and Toyota fixed it. The driver's side went out right after warranty at 3.5 years and I fixed it. The driver's went out again after a year or so, then the back locks a year later, then the passenger just last week.

They either get stuck closed or open or just quiver in place as the little RC car servo motor (literally what it is) stops working. They usually malfunction for a few weeks before totally dying.

It's a 5-6 beer job prying the door off.

Ahh makes sense. Initially I thought all 4 grenaded all at once which sounded suspicious. Oddly I sold my 4th get with 250k likes and never had a bad actuator. My current 5th gen has 65k and everything works. Enjoy the beers :-)
