So right now, I need some help.

my "new" 92 sr5 has some problems. some I think i can fix, others i need some help with.

1. my speedometer is acting hinkey. I fired it up after sitting for two weeks and drove it to the gas station and the speedometer was shaking/not working at all. Then when i drove it back home, it worked just fine. (strange)

2. my "O/D Off light" is flashing, all the time. I think this may be the equivalent of a "Check engine light". Since my truck is pre OBD-II then I'm guessing that's what it means. If there's any readers or procedures for understanding why its flashing that would be great.

which i'm guessing is leading to my other problem.

3. zero power on take off. I've tested it out off road and on and about 50% of the time the truck has NO low end torque. i've read that the stock 3.0 is kind of anemic. it takes about 20 to 30 secconds to get up to 60. now I am used to faster cars but this seems wrong to me. and even with upwards of 260K miles it seems...slow.

any information would be great but as always, opinions are usefull.

The flashing OD light indicates transmission trouble. I think you can jumper the diagnostic port and read the flashes the same way you can the check engine light, but I've never done it with the OD light. A google search should get you specifics.

It does sound like you're low on power.

Speedometer cable may need to be replaced or lubed. Try spraying some chain oil grease or lithium grease in the end that connects to the back of the instrument panel. Do this while driving slowly through a parking lot or down a back street. Need the cable to spin while you're applying the grease.

The yahoo owner before me looks like they used tranny fluid on mine. So, I said, what the heck and used a little too. It sorta worked, but the needle still jumps around for the 1st 20 miles or so, then works fine.

As far as the O/D light goes, look up some of my original posts. Every tranny shop in Tucson wanted to rebuild or replace my tranny. I replaced the shift solenoids for around $200. Lot less than the $2500 - $3000 I was going to pay for the "rebuild". If you have any questions hit me up here or PM me. People gave a lot of great info to me. Even how to shoot and decipher the codes........

Thanks for the info, clone. I'm wondering if there's any way to check if it's my ecu VS the solenoids. Cause knowing my luck it'll be the opposite of whichever part I buy.

I also have a post about valve covers.... somewhere someone pasted a link that tells you how to wire the diagnostic box and tells you what the codes are. It's very specific...... Diagnosed my whole Runner to the T!!!
