All my warning lights are on

See attached photo. When starting my 2006 4runner, the lights are all off. About 3 seconds after it turning over, they all come on and stay illuminated for the entire time driving. Everything works fine -- ABS, speedometer, tact, etc. No idea. Looks like an electrical issue.

The ODB reported 15 codes. The first one was the most troubling, which was c1201: Engine Control System Malfunction. The rest were all codes dealing with evaporator issues.

Anyone ever see before?

A lot of people have good luck with checking the gas cap is tight or buying a new gas cap and disconnecting the battery for 20 minutes. Reconnect, and be done.

I have not had the same luck with the above fix. I'll be watching this thread to see if any new info pops up.

I read that thread in detail. There are two differences here.

1) My check engine light is on, while they say in the thread that check engine is usually off.
2) I am getting a ridiculous amount of OBD codes. The thread says no codes.

Not sure. Very bizarre

This will explain the reason so many lights are on.

Can you please post all the DTCs present, C1201 is a generic fail-safe DTC set when an OBDII DTC is detected.

Do you mean Evaporative Emissions?

I unhooked the battery for 20 mins and double clicked the gas cap (which was loose), so the computer needs a soak period before it starts reporting out again. Ill likely need a week until i can post all the codes, IF they come back on. Talk soon!

Cool to hear. From what I've read so far, your original post of 'evaporator issue' seems to fall in line with the possible gas cap. Mine is P2197 which doesn't seem to.

I'm guessing some of the DTCs were P0456 and a P0441? Which sounds inline with a gas cap being loose (you never posted the DTCs so I can't be sure.)

I'm worried about being one of these guys that chases the sensor based on the code and something else pops up. I know it's not the only cause for that code, but seems like the best place to start. You agree? Reading through the forum makes me think either 1) gas cap fixes everything, or 2) not matter what you do, the light will never go off.. haha.

That's a pretty straight forward DTC, toss in a new Bank 2 Sensor 1 AFR sensor and you're good to go. That's one of those really easy DTCs, the only other possibility is the ECM; which is extremely unlikely.

Basically it's saying that the ECM is watching the sensor and it knows that the sensor is reading too Lean even when it richens up the mixture.

I changed both upstream and downstream oxygen sensors(03). That's what the code reader says it was. Now I just can't get my lights to go away. Lol

I have tried replacing my gas cap and unplugging the battery cables... This worked for about 3 months... Then they came back on... I believe that toyota needs to do a recall on whatever is causing the problem!

My gas cap fix seems to be holding. I recall it taking about a week of driving for the ECU to go through all of its checks, but promising so far. One thing that is definitely working is that i can disable VSC. That wasnt happening before since everything was illuminated in the dash.

All the lights came back on yesterday. The codes that came back from the reader weren't 15 in number this time, only 4, all evaporator:

P0456- EVAP Gross Leak Detected
P0455- EVAP Small Leak Detected
P0411- EVAP Incorrect Purge Flow Detected

Check the gas cap and see if it's loose, I will guess that it has backed off by itself. I've been seeing this happening with some of the older Toyotas (happened to my 4th gen as well) the rubber gets very hard and will cause the cap to back off and create a leak, you tighten it and it's okay for a bit until it gets loose again. A factory gas cap is a good fix, though some aftermarket ones work as well (seems sorta spotty though, some people have had the aftermarket ones not seal properly).

At least that's my guess since those are the trifecta for a large leak like a Gas Cap or big hole in the EVAP system.

By the way, the correct term is not "Evaporator" that is the radiator-like assembly in the HVAC system that cools the air when you turn the AC system off. EVAP is shorthand for "Evaporative Emissions Control System", there is a difference and when you first posted I thought you were talking about an Air Conditioning issue. You can just call them "Emissions DTCs/Codes" as that's pretty well known as well. Don't mean to beat you up on it, but the wrong terminology can send diagnostics in the wrong direction.

So after tightening my gas cap repeatedly, this clearly didn't fix it. So, i am going to get a new one and see what that does. Does this look right?
