All of sudden, ignition won't let me turn the key all the way

So all of sudden. I put my key into the ignition. Can't turn it. Rotate the key 180. Can't turn it. So basically I cannot turn on my accessories let alone crank the truck. WTF

I really hope its not just a locked steering wheel. Move the steering while trying to start.

Yes I have tried moving the steering wheel. Fix one thing. Something else takes a shit. I'm afraid it's the ignition cylinder. Buying a aftermarket will give me 2 keys. Is there a way to not have 2 different keys? Has anyone else had this issue ?

Try with another key you have for the truck. As soon as it turns, just remove the ignition barrel while keeping the key at ACC and pressing the tab at the bottom and then pull the key and barrel together. If you get to pull the barrel out, find what pin(s) sticks out with your previous key and grind that damn thing down!

I had the same issue and no luck with any key so I basically destroyed the barrel and installed a new barrel.. yes, I got 2 keys now!

I had the same issue a while ago and it was the cylinder. Had to have a locksmith come out and it turned out to be the split wafer. AFAIK, he removed one of the wafers and it has worked since.

Just had my mechanic get me a aftermarket key cylinder for $50. I'll have 2 keys but it is what it is. Not trying to pay $$$$$ at dealer just to have the same key. I did manage to remove the ignition cylinder. But cannot see anything. Afraid of removing the c clip and stuff flying out lol.

In case your rig is stuck, I used to have to jiggle the tip- as I slid it in- for the key to turn in my '97. Had a locksmith fix the split wafers before I let it go to a new home.

Lol. You guys are awesome. Always providing good info/knowledge and humor. I appreciate everyone pitching in and trying to help. Truly do. Lucky me. My truck is at my driveway. Just about 5 min ago I installed aftermarket ignition cylinder. And it everything is good. Only down side is two keys.

with the 4 runners...or Toyota in general, cant you just take the lock cylinder to a lock smith and have him reset the cylinder to the old key. That's what I did with an old Volvo, then when I got an old BMW 318ic on the bmw forum a guy even posted directions and part numbers to take a new cylinder and set to your old key, which I did, so no second keys

my 4runner lock is doing good right now, but if I get in that situation, that's what I will look into doing

and if I remember, there is a thread here on this forum someplace of a guy fixing his stuck lock cylinder by taking it apart, so I bet the pins can be set to whatever key you have

Maybe, I'd have to get a hold of a good locksmith and ask him. Right now, I have two keys. The old ignition cylinder feels very worn out. Probably the pins inside are just old and worn out. I never need to use the key to unlock the doors as I have a key fob for that. But there have been few times where the alarm didn't work and I needddthe key to unlock the door. So I'll just have 2 keys. No big deal. Rather have my truck start then be stranded.

In the old days all cars had 2 keys sometimes 3. One for the glove box.
