All-Terrain Tire Recommendation

Body on frame 4x4 with a large v6 or small v8 an people constantly use MPG as an excuse. Honestly how much of a difference is it going to make? I went from stock P Dunlops to a size larger LT load range E BFG and my mileage stayed the same 17mpg average in my v8. I've seen a best of 20mpg all highway hand calculated. Changing your driving habits have a larger effect on you MPG than a few pounds in your tires.
 
There is also a big difference in tread depth between P and LT tires. You should in theory get more life out of the LT's and offset some fuel costs if any.

I probably would get Firestone Destination AT - they look overall better in Tirerack reviews and not much worse then SilentArmor in snow. SilentArmor was my second choice by the way, but if you really need snowflake and P tire SilentArmor would be the best choice in my opinion. Needless to say I got LT C load Duratracs after all because I couldn't find all-around better tires and I didn't mind stronger LT tires.
 
I went with General Grabber AT2's 265/70/17 at $187/per tire. They have a slight buzz on the tarmac but its not terrible like some of the mudder tires I hear rolling around Yuma.
 
A buddy of mine as a set of General Grabbers on his Nissan Frontier and loves em. I went with the Duratracs and couldn't be happier. Was in some pretty crappy situations this past winter.

I would personally advocate getting a set of winter tires, since you specifically mention the snow flake. My Duratracs are studded but I'm not sure if I'm gonna run them again this year since our winter this year was overall pretty mild. I do a lot of highway driving for work and the studs are nearly toast. The Nokian Hakk 7 is what I'll be getting come winter time.

If you're just after looks, get something with good wear and knobby.

I ran the Duratracs (non-studded) two winters ago and was only mildly happy. I switched to the Nokian Hakkepelita LT (studded) last winter and I love them. They've been pretty invincible in the snow and still a solid enough tire for off road conditions during the shoulder season.

I do run Duratracs the rest of the year and I am happy with them though. If you live in the mountains or see severe snow, the Hakkepelita's are the way to go. The Duratracs are a great tire and can do the job depending on what your needs are.

@OP: A lot of people here like the Duratracs because a lot of people here either go off road or are "off road posers" and the Duratrac fits the bill for both crowds. I drive a fair amount of miles and just wanted a more agressive tread while still being able to drive the miles comfortably. Go to post #17 in the linked thread for my reasoning.

I'd call the Duratrac's above average in the winter. Mine are studded. The Nokians would be much better and I would have gone that way but there are no options that way in a studded 35"

Two sets of tires are definitely the way to go. Its a large upfront investment but worth it. You get the best of both worlds and over time is not really any more expensive.
 
I just put these on, they do have the M and S symbol. Firestone Dest. AT. They have a 70 rebate thru July 8th.

Ramsey. Did u turn the white raised letter towards the inside of the truck? Or are these firestones all blackwalls?
Man. I hate white letters on tires!
More cleaning to do. And turning the white letters in gives me huge OCD....
Bad. Real bad.......
 
Within the first hour of taking delivery of my 2012 T.E. I swapped out my stock Dunlops for Firestone Destination A/Ts of the same size and load rating. They were giving very high praise in a few tire reviews that I read on this forum and elsewhere. I have been extremely pleased with these tires and can recommend them without reservation.

My other vehicle is a modded out Jeep Wrangler which I have been running Duratracs on for the past 18,000 miles. In EVERY regard I like the Firestone's better. One thing I particularly appreciate about the Firestone A/Ts (compared to the Duratracs), is that they do not sling nearly as many rocks or as much mud against the lower doors of my 4R. They also ride significantly better and are much, much quieter.

I have no intention of "rock climbing" with my new T.E. but it will be spending a lot of time on 2-track forest trails deep within our public land and out in big, muddy, rut strewn fields. I have every confidence that these Firestone's will take me anywhere I want to go.

turned them in.....on the inside. I debated, happy I stuck with black on the outside.
