but I just don't understand the science of how the spring being compressed can lift the truck...

When you compress the spring, you are changing the position of the strut relative to the spring. By raising the perch you are pushing the bottom of the strut farther down below the spring. In a way it is just making the assembly taller, kind of like when you add a spacer.

3rd notch with the spacer... i'm thinking a 1/2" spacer would be better no?

That actually looks pretty level. Did you measure to see how it sits? You might be good running the second perch with those top plate spacers. Seems to work well but you are also running the LC wraps in the rear. If somebody like me were to put those in front I think I would be sitting with reverse rake even on the second perch. My 890s do not sit that high.

Thanks for the pictures!!! They are a big help.

yeah wrex i think i'm either going to the second perch (i hate paying someone everytime i want to adjust) or i'm switching to the 1/2" top plate.

i also must say that this changed the behavior of the 5100's... they were a lot smoother without the spacers... however, its not enough to feel uncomfortable.

bump an old thread because I am thinking of raising mine to perch 3. Currently I am on perch 2 and would like the front sit a little bit higher. Do you guys think my cvs with be ok with it being on the 3rd perch? I currently have a 1" diff drop installed

Whether your CVs can handle it depends on way too many factors, including how you use your vehicle. The only thing for certain is that they will be more likely to fail than they were before.

I am at #2 on passenger side and #3 on drivers to correct drivers side lean. I have about 2" of rake with my 8 wraps in back. It rides pretty smooth up front and a little stiff in the rear. I am planning to add 1/4 inch spacers next to bring me more level.

Right now it is currently a pavement pounder till I get another DD

I'm sitting on perch 3 with a differential drop and have no problems, but mine is a DD/beach machine. My CV boots did rip shortly after lifting, but I stretched the new one's when I installed them and I haven't had any issues.

i think you should only be on perch 3 if you have an aftermarket bumper on there. i've got the same setup in my ss 1.2 kit and that was part of the recommended settings.

What type of lift does the Tundra springs with the 5100's give you vs say stock 4runner springs w/5100's? I am planning on a 3" rear lift. I understand how the 5100's work...I think after reading this thread.
So the spring compresses when it is moved up on the perch thus allowing more of the rod on the upward movement, since the truck is being pushed upward from the compressed spring. Correct?

Funny how no one talks about the loss of down travel when raising their lower perch setting, or how it changes is the corner weight on each tire. Just saying!

Also, I'm assuming you guys are running 4Runner 5100s, not Tundras (making sure everyone's on the same page)?

Sounds like Tundra TRD springs give just a 1.75-2" lift versus stock... A stock 4R front on third mount up gives just under three inches. My guess is it'd be a 4.5" lift, net. On the second mount, though, it might be closer to your 3.5" goal.

More or less, you got it. Only variable were leaving out is how the corner weights change, possibly changing how much static weight is supported by each corner.
