All wet - now what

I left town in my wifes car yesterday at about noon. I got back today at about 7:00 this evening and then had to make a run to the store. I grabbed my keys got in my 4Runner and noticed it. I left my rear window open while out of town. I think it rained between 1/2" and 1" (first time in forever with this drought). Anyway I have opened up the hatch, raised the double decker to the elevated position, opened the jack and storage hatches and put a box fan back there in the garage. What else should I do to facilitate drying and ensure there is no mildew or smell?

Use a wet-dry vac. Also ck under the back seats. You may have to take the carpet out to get it all. Norm

After you have removed any standing water with a shop-vac or towels, position a dehumidifier directly behind the open liftgate of your 4Runner.
Be sure to empty the dehumidifier as needed and just let it keep running until it dries out the 4Runner.

I have used the dehumidifier technique to dry out my vehicles over the years and is much better and faster than drying using a fan.
If you do not have a dehumidifier, you might be able to borrow one from a family member, neighbor or rent one from an equipment rental place.

to be sure I recommend you replace the carpet. it's toast. in my 97, the sunroof leaked during a rainstorm. I filed a comprehensive weather related claim with my insurance company and they paid for new carpet and the fix on the sunroof. don't know if that fits your situation but once carpet is wet.......it is a tough one.
