Alternative antenna options

So, someone recently decided that, of all the enticing goodies on my 4runner, my power antenna mast looked the most enticing. I really want to replace it but I hate the whole telescoping aspect of the antenna and I was wondering if there were any non-telescoping antennas anyone's been running on their 4runners that they liked.
Other info: 2001 4runner with a pioneer DEH-X16UB reciever

Not to highjack the thread but does anybody know if you can mount the stubby antenna's from the newer scions in the factory antenna spot and have it work? If so, how? Looks female to female, radio ain't my specialty.

Not really a fan of the wip antenna and my retractable broke off on the trail long ago. I hardly use my radio as I just plug my phone into the HU but traffic alerts and local stations when traveling would be nice.

I've been eyeing the roof-mounted antennas on all the newer cars because they are low profile and generally can't be broken. All you need is to extend the coax to the roof, which I've already done for a ham antenna. It might not be much more work than trying to retrofit an antenna that's not made for your fender, and it would look very modern. Would work great in the forest too.

I get mine from car audio stores.

I've had two so far. lost one when I flodded the truck. the second is still going strong.
