When you have a car that new, I've found it's best to take what you can get private party. It's rare to find a buyer for something so close to new when for a little more you can get new. As long as the offer is above what a trade-in/carmax would get you, it's a win.
 
I agree with hearno, but at the same time I understand your hesitation; it's just a tough call. Nice truck though, GL w/ the sale.

For what it's worth, if you do find someone that wants the sliders removed send me a PM with your asking price.
 
Nice looking truck with the sliders and tires... I'm not familiar with US prices, but even in Canada I think you would be on the high end of pricing. I'm not sure what's going on south of the boarder, but with the 2014s coming soon, the finance rates on the '13s has dropped. Anyone looking to finance your used 4Runner wouldn't be paying much less than a brand new one... Tough sell, but good luck. I personally would have snatched the 34k and your sliders and moved on.

I bought my TE for 37.5k new.

I personally think that paying near new price for a used truck is ridiculous and would probably offer you 31k, but your price is only outrageous if no one wants to pay it.
 
Making you an offer and actually going through with the deal are two different things. Unless the guy flashed $34K right in front of your face, I'm thinking they would have got cold feet before they ever closed the deal. So don't feel bad. I don't think they balked because of price. I just don't think they ever would have gone through with the deal regardless.

But you should always be willing to deal. You were holding pretty tight to your listed price. That's not showing much flexibility. I can see your 4R has some nice add-ons, including sliders, and it looks like it's in near perfect shape. But you're not a dealer who has 100 more cars that you can make up the money you'll lose if you go light on one deal.

Let the add run for a while see what kind of action you get on it. You might have to come off the price at least $1500 to sell it. Maybe $2,000.

You need to consider the sliders a sunk cost. Don't nickel and dime people about every accessory that might be on your truck. If it were me, I would have taken the 34k. As others have mentioned, I think you'll find few buyers who would pay that much for a truck with 10k when they can buy new and know how every mile was driven since they took it off the lot.

I agree and regret not taking the $34K. It was actually the wife who came out to look at it and made the offer. The guy wanted it right out of the ad. Lesson learned about the add-ons, however. I'm thinking of taking off the rock sliders and weathertechs and just posting them on craigslist, then dropping the price. Problem with dropping the price right away is that everyone automatically assumes that this is now the starting point and wants to go another $1500 lower.

As for the "near-new" price comments, 10% - 20% off new, no dealer fees, with only 10K miles and with $2K in extras (rocksliders you have to wait 4 months for, weathertechs, BFG All-Terrains), I don't know - to me it's not unreasonable. Plus, it's a Trail. Not too many around and the 14s are fugly IMO.

Anyway, I'm just looking for opinions. It's served me well and the LC is a want, not a need. Maybe that's why I was so inflexible. When I started "selling" it, I might have "sold" it to myself. :)

Your truck, in "excellent" condition, has a Blue Book value of $34,752 for private sale. That's including off-road tires and "running boards". I initially ran the price without navigation, and it came-up $700 lower. People are willing to pay an additional bit for navigation, but 99% of buyers don't care about your floor liners, tires, or rock sliders. If it were me, I'd keep the price where it's at and remove any verbiage about lowering the price by removing accessories.
 
You have a nice truck setup the way most people (who would, at least, slightly modify their vehicles) would like, imo. No crazy lift, good tires, black, sliders, low miles, TE, etc.etc.

The only thing working against you is it being an 11. Does that negate the "rarity" price bump? Probably not. I'll just point out, at least personally, my miser's soul winces when seeing a 2 year old vehicle 4-5k off the price of a new one. I know high resale is typical with Toyotas, but emotion often plays a larger role in purchases than logic.

Whoever said upgrades are a total loss from the word go, is correct.

I agree with limamike. Leave it at the current price and change the text of the add. I would say anything above 33k is a win. A starting price of 35.5k gives you a likely landing spot of high 34k range.

For what it is worth, I purchased my 2011 TE w/ NAV and KDSS from a dealer (Ohio) in Dec of 2012 for 33K including taxes, fees, title, and original warranty and 7 yr/100K limited warranty. The vehicle had 18K miles and was in perfect condition with original tires and no mods.

You have a great looking vehicle!
 
I took out the bits about removing add-ons per your advice. I wasn't sure it was a good idea in the first place. I think I'll let the asking price ride for a bit and see what happens.

As for the '11 vs. '12, I bought it in 2012 so the warranty is good for another 18 months or 25K miles. But, point taken.

You keep trying to convince US what your truck is worth, you only need to convince whomever is buying it.

You had a single offer for 34k, so that's your answer of the upper limit of how much people are willing to pay you for it. You can either wait it out, or drop the price.

KBB prices only mean something if someone gives you cash in hand.
 
Get over yourself and the royal "us". Nobody is trying to convince anyone of anything. I'm simply sharing information (what this website and the Internet is designed to do), and asking for rational, impartial advice (what most T4R.org members are known to be able to impart). I'm aware that I may be asking too much, hence the post. You sound upset - maybe stick to yet another "how big of a tire can I fit..." thread instead.
 
I've sold cars, houses, boats, you name it, at a profit and a loss over the past 20 years. Markets were good, markets were bad.

I'm just spelling out the reality to you. You asked if you're asking too much, the fact that you haven't sold it means... maybe. This is the age of informed buyers and when someone sees a used car for near the price of a new one a few dollars off isn't going to motivate them unless your vehicle is the exact color and model and configuration they want and not another one like it can be found--those buyers are rare. I'd rather buy a NEW truck for a little more and not get the exact color I want, or every feature I need. The truth is that you can still get good deals on new current gen TEs and they're not that rare (and they never will be).

The biggest kick in the ass most private party sellers get is that even if their car is worth a certain value, they may not be in the right market to sell it, there's not enough local exposure, or what they're selling may be valuable but since no one wants one at THAT price it will never move.

Go to car auctions, very nice cars sell for crap below what they SHOULD be worth and crap cars no one in their right mind would want sell for MORE. If you really want that Land Cruiser right now, you will have to sell for less than what you want, or keep waiting.

I work for a financial institution and we use NADA to book out all of our vehicle loans. We use the 'Clean Loan' value to help with determining the price. My unprofessional opinion is... If you get an offer at 33k or more, take it.

Like [MENTION=62008]limamike[/MENTION] said, it's hard to ask for the 'add-ons' in your sale. Most people do not take that into consideration and some even see it as a negative.

If you add on ANYTHING except tires you will not get anything additional for trade, and very few customers will buy your "conversion" and pay for the cost of materials. There is a market for conversions that are done by professionals. You see them at dealers all the time. Your idea of what looks good is seldom what someone else thinks looks good or is functional.
My vote is $33K also.
 
Additionally, as a potential buyer.. My concern would be that you're trying to wash your hands of a lemon. Even though it's still warranty, some might be wary you're trying to get out of an issue.
