Am i the only 4runner owner getting 11mpgs?

I spoke to a nearby mechanic and for some reason he believes that the truck is running fine if there's no CEL on and plugging a diagnostic computer into the OBD port would only be useful if there was a CEL. Said that I'll never get the same good mileage that I used to get when the truck was new ( really? )

what about diff fluid. that needs changed every 30k. if its really old, it will be hurting performance because it will be holding back the gears from spinning as efficiently as they should be.

that would show up on the trip computer or only affect the MPG when you calculate it by hand?

I changed mine at 30k and replaced it with NGK Iridium plugs. I believe those are good for 100k.

I believe that to be incorrect as well. For the record, brand new (before break-in is completed) is likely worse than at 100k miles I would think.

I would also think that as long as all systems are running properly, that there's no reason why at like 100k, you can't get the same mileage you did at 5k.

Actually in my case that was wrong. Brand new i got around 20.5 constantly. After around 15k the mileage dropped to 19.5 and i could never get back to the 20's again.

Average is about 16, 18 on the wishometer, for mostly city driving.

I am going to try seafoam next time before i do a oil change through the vacuum hose and see if that makes me get back to the 20's again. Right now i am averaging 19.5, which isnt that bad.

I am consistently getting roughly 11~12mpg on average, but its actually expected because of my driving habits...

I rarely take the truck on a trip longer than say 20miles on one start-up and my work is less than a mile or so from my house so the 4Runner barely warms up before I get there. All that short driving at roughly 30mph speeds kills the mileage.

I guess it does depend on your driving habits and what kind of gas you use. I drive highways quite allot and use shell gasoline. I get 20.2 mpg and last time i filled up i got a little over 460 miles out of that tank!

I live in Colorado Springs, about 7000ft, and regularly drive my 04, v6 all around the rockies. I get on average around 22-24mpg. I have 148k, new plugs and keep my tires at 32psi.

I'm at 124,xxx mles with a 4.0L V6 and getting about 20.1 after seafoam. Before it was around 17. There definitely was a lot of smoke that came out of the exhaust.

I have a K&N filter, I just had the 120k service (spark plugs), and routinely use Chevron Techron fuel injector cleaner every 12000 miles.

I dunno, but I think 20 mpg for a truck of this size, isn't bad.

People should stop posting your average maintenance to do stuff, there's was like three reasonable response the entire thread
1 brake calipers
2 maf sensor
3 02 sensor

SRt8 jeeps gets better mileage with another half of 1grfe. Its obvious his ride is not doing ok.
I would start diagnosing from #1 (easyiest to expensive)

1 touch ur tires
2 clean maf with alcholhol or the correct fluid
3 pull out sensor after soaking in pb blaster for several hours to prevent galling. Search posts for more info.

I stomp my pedal alot for the thrills (till speed limit) and get 18.5mpg city. To get less mpg I must be locked in 4th or so
