Am I the world's oldest TE owner?

You are the perfect age for a trail edition (70). The person I off road with a lot just turned 76. It took me a while to get him to put a lift and all terrain tires on his 4runner but now it very capable exploring the desert. I retired last year at 55. I would not want to be younger and have to deal with work, raising kids again etc. We are now free to get up in the morning and enjoy doing whatever we want to do. Enjoy your life and your new trail edition. There are a lot of Jeep clubs where I live. Most of those guys are retired old farts like us. They have the ability to go any day of the week and do not have to wait for the weekends like the working class. In fact we try to avoid weekends because the trails are more crowded then.

I'm aiming for what a friend calls "compressed morbidity", which means you stay active and healthy and have fun for as long as you can, then go out fast.

I read a book recently titled "Younger Next Year"; the entire premise being that if you can continue to be functionally younger then your actual age/years through great health (achieved mostly through intense exercise) then you can do all of these cool things we mostly associate with younger people) kayaking, biking, skiing etc and truly enjoy life to the fullest. Then when it's time to go, the idea is to die quickly, hopefully pain free with no regrets.

As for me, I'm 57 and hope to live forever. So far, so good !

One thing about the 4Runner though, it's not easy to get in and out of with injuries! As I was getting into it at the trailhead with freshly cracked ribs my first thought was "Wow, I should have gotten leather 'cause my a$$ ain't sliding and it needs to if I am going to get into position to drive home."

I think drinking helps too!

At 60, my doctor says' I'm in pretty good shape, still very active, was once an avid runner, and bike rider, until a back injury, now I walk 4.4 miles a day. Since I'm retired, and comfortable, I've got my bucket-list, my laptop, and my wi-fi card, always looking for someplace to go. :wink2:
