Amber delete or 100% clear headlights? Anyone do this mod?

Headlights are sealed with permaseal. permaseal means pain the butt to open and clean. I would buy a single headlight on ebay in order to practice how to openthem, and buy some butyl rubber glue from theretrofitsource in order to reseal your headlights.

I have Kustom54 building me a set now. and while the price does seem high (because it is), you also have to consider what you'd pay going in:

$300 TYC headlights
$440 MLed projectors
$100 Halo and strip

then you have to go to all the trouble building, painting and aiming them. I've done this before and it's a total pain. I'm also fairly confident that if I ever want to sell these custom headlights they will put some money back in my pocket.

What’s the quality of the TYC housings vs OEM? Do they look identical?

IMO, sounds like way too much work just to have a clear lens.

Plus I doubt the lens assy would be fully sealed after the swap. After the first rain or car wash, you are going to have a micro ecco system living in your light housing.

Isn't the amber lens inside the sealed headlight housing? You would need to crack open the sealed assy just to get to the amber lens. Doesn't sound easy to me lol. Agree that it would be time consuming. Plus OP lives in SF with a fair amount of moisture. Not sure how long the mod would even hold up.

The whole amber delete thing reminds me of Honda Accords and Civics for the late 90's or early 2000's.

that's what they use for all their builds and they look great to me, though I don't have mine yet. I used Depo headlights last time around and they were totally fine.

I wonder has anyone used VHT nightshades on the inner chrome parts to black it out?

My goal is to smoke the chrome pieces out and not black out all the reflectors completely.

I remember using VHT nightshades on the outside lens back in highschool (some 20 years ago) and it is stickier and runnier than regular spray paint.

what does the hive think? I figure if it doesnt work, I can completely black it out w/ matte black paint.

I did the Diode Dynamics 'switchbacks'. Running light are now white LEDs until signals go on, then they flip to amber for the duration of turn signal (or 4 way) flashing. Then they revert to white LED.

At the risk of sounding cheap, why don’t you just buy some white reflective tape and stick it in place or the amber reflector once it’s removed? I can’t see paying that much money just to retain a reflector.

I’ve baked and opened countless headlights. I’ve actually done it so much that it seemed like it was a small business for a while there. Most people never want the reflector replaced and while I know it’s “required,” not a single cop I know (and I work with them for a living)would ever pick up on it or write you for it.

Baking the headlights is easy. Resealing them is completely possible if you take your time and use the proper sealants. This is a one day project even for a novice...and it’s not a labor and time intensive adventure.
