I think if you take any group of people, some are going to be interested in politics, some are not. I have American friends who unabashedly tell me they don't even watch the news or follow politics. Even this forum has plenty of regular members who stay out of the political discussions. Not sure it would be fair to say that those American's who participate in these discussions do so because of their age, their income level, or their education. Some people just dont care.
I don't think that that mostly invisible line that separates us changes people all that much. As a great example of how what happens in the US affects Canada, you'll all be happy to know that BLM has started up in Toronto!

I normally try to not get involved in political things, but as my son grows up I realize I need to try to give him the best example I can. I'm amazed at how kid(s), using mine as an example, have zero regards to race, ethnicity and more. I know parents & family can greatly influence that, but my son is a lot like me shy. He will pretty much play with anyone after he askes me (safety first always), regards of A/S/L/E.
Kids are priceless in this regard and my son makes me very happy when this happens.

Let's just all watch what goes on outside the conventions in Cleveland and Philly and come to our own conclusions about which is the tolerant and peaceful party.
A civil society shouldn't judge a group of people based on the actions of a few. When the POTUS does this, he divides, and people will become increasingly un civil which is what we are seeing in the US.

the video has just been released. it looks pretty clear that it was a justified shooting. interesting, that you passed judgment, before even knowing what was going on.
here is the video. it may be tough to watch, as someone does get shot/dies on camera, and there is a bit of yelling, and language, so mind your speakers.

There were at least three officers pointing weapons at him. How is it that not one of them had a taser to disable the guy?
Is it too much to ask that one "officer" has a taser out while the other "officers" cover him with their weapons?
I don't think it justifiable to issue a death sentence to someone for failing to show their hands...

As far as the other shootings the past week. Those are in the same boat. Do police not receive training with tasers?

This other video shows the footage from the third officer. He has a 12 gauge shotgun...
They shot him on the ground multiple times after he was already shot... Believe me... once someone is shot they are not going to play Simon says with the cops... he was obviously reaching to "check" his wounds in his torso after being shot...
You wouldn't be calling it justified if it was your kid...

I find it not necessarily amusing but moreso sad that individuals here are so easy to judge an LEO and think they could handle that job for 24 hours let alone as a career. Everyone is an expert here safely sitting behind their keyboards. This thread again shows what is truly wrong with the general populous.

You can clearly see his right hand through the truck window initially and a number of times he does show his hand and it is clearly not a gun. I watched it in full screen. I would say this becomes a judgement call which is also reflective of training and daily experience. Ben550 clearly makes good points but I did not see a gun when viewing the video everytime, yes he did have something in his hand and he was very slow to follow commands if at all but is that justification for deadly force and multiple shots when he is down.....what we are witnessing did not have to end this way. Every party involved made choices alone the way. I would think this model is more military threat assessment than civilian and we all should be concerned about this. We should all be concerned when an unarmed civilian is killed and we can all learn something instead of just picking a side and being convinced that the other view is wrong so it should be easily dismissed.

If you have multiple cops aiming guns at you, you don't keep your hands hidden, and walk towards them. deaf or otherwise.
as far as tazers, again, they were called in about someone with a gun. then this guy did something stupid at a gas station, and got their attention. you don't go in with less than lethal, against a lethal threat. which is why they were called, and then with him continuing to hide his hand.
honestly, I think this was a case of suicide by cop.
I would be calling it justified. my kid, or yours, or anyone else's. im not sure how you, or anyone else can see it differently. he was hiding his hands, and started towards them.

So, you are trying to get at the possibility that he did not understand the police officers instructions. He kept on raising one hand and repeatedly obstructing the officers' view of the other hand.
He clearly understood that SOME command was being issued as he kept on raising only one hand...soooo...it was a miscommunication...he understood the commands to mean "only show one hand but don't worry, we don't need to see the other"? Cmon, seriously?
Tazers are available and used in thousands of police interactions but they aren't ALWAYS available.

And yet everyone this week has completely been distracted about these 5 lives of actual heroes who were lost this week. People have ignored the President sending in more troops to the middle east, didn't he say we have beat ISIS and we were going to be pulling out of there? We also decided to deploy troops to Russia this past week. But yes by all means we can continue to judge an officers every movement and sit here on our couches and not even fathom the danger they face on a daily basis and be distracted by yet again another race war.
