And yet everyone this week has completely been distracted about these 5 lives of actual heroes who were lost this week. People have ignored the President sending in more troops to the middle east, didn't he say we have beat ISIS and we were going to be pulling out of there? We also decided to deploy troops to Russia this past week. But yes by all means we can continue to judge an officers every movement and sit here on our couches and not even fathom the danger they face on a daily basis and be distracted by yet again another race war.

So 77 people so far were killed when a truck drove a mile through bystanders in France. Reported he shouted the "AlluAkbar" as he was shot by police. No guns were used yet he killed 77. You can't ban trucks.

What is going on in this stupid world and what can be done to get rid of these guys? Please don't say it's our fault and more gun control is the answer.

I find it not necessarily amusing but moreso sad that individuals here are so easy to judge an LEO and think they could handle that job for 24 hours let alone as a career. Everyone is an expert here safely sitting behind their keyboards. This thread again shows what is truly wrong with the general populous.

I have been in much more stressful situations than this and still managed to use restraint, avoid lethal force, and make it home in tact.

I would think this model is more military threat assessment than civilian and we all should be concerned about this.

I would be rotting in Ft Leavenworth Prison for the rest of my life if I did something like this in Afghanistan.

then this guy did something stupid at a gas station, and got their attention. you don't go in with less than lethal, against a lethal threat. which is why they were called, and then with him continuing to hide his hand.

It is called escalation of force... You don't go from verbal to lethal in 1 second.

Doing something stupid and attracting attention does not deserve a death sentence.

Notice the cop pulled his handgun out while driving and pointed it at the truck... like he was going to try and shoot the driver while pursuing... So doing a burnout merits being tagged with an officers sidearm? Thats insane.

Any presence of a normal police force would have stopped these guys much earlier on.

Where were they? How do they go over a mile like that without a police challenge? Other than maybe Germany, Europe is very much a sea of easy targets, plain and simple.

While I agree that this truck should have been stopped sooner. Let's take the city of Seattle for example. If this happened there the odds of a police car being able to drive in front of the truck quickly is low. Short of running down pedestrians to get there. (Whole other bag or S). So your main hope is for the police to open fire on the truck? In today's world I think that would draw very hard scrutiny. I would love to hear other options. Profiling? Wire taps? Vetting of refugees? I'm in favor of vetting. Especially if a civilian was hit say as the truck swerved and ran in to a restaurant, store? Now in not saying it shouldn't be done but a police chief in Washington just had to resign for calling the BLM movement reckless and dangerous. Unless we are going to stand behind our police force we shouldn't expect them to go 100% all out for us. Noted that good cops still will go the distance. But just think about today's society.

I have sifted through a bunch of this. Read, read some more, did some more reading. There is more absurd banter back and forth here than I even know what to do with. Let's look at it like this, America is divided. End of story. This banter is while at times an educated banter, but a wedge that divides further. At the end of the day we're all American. I will go out on a limb and someone will flame me for it, but whatever. Trevor Noah, he's African American, he's from South Africa, he's also an immigrant. If you're entire family is Italian, but you're born in jersey, guess what you're American. I've met a handful of black British men, they don't tell me they are African British, they are British. Stop dividing the country by petty school yard crap.

Secondly people die every day. We live in a world where information is at our fingertips, and instant. Yet everyone is so quick to stop and join a cause or a side because you have the inability to formulate your own thoughts or opinions. Yours have been provided by the lovely cnn or Fox News. We gather all the information that supports our cause instead of trying to figure out what actually happened. People also a fallible, they make mistakes, and when you feel threatened you make decisions in an instant.

At the end of the day, shut up, let the system work. That is what it is here for. If you don't trust the system it absolutely will not work. And if you want to be anything other than American, relinquish your American citizenship, and go forth to your hyphenated country.

But the key is that in Seattle after a fireworks display at night along a waterfront with thousands of people around there would have been a significant police presence all along the route to guide people safely. There would be no chasing from behind because the next police vehicle would be very near by.

In Nice, looked like the police had packed it in for the night. There was nothing.

I don't think it is that simple. Stopping a truck like that is extremely difficult. Even in Texas I'm sure it would get pretty far. If it was going 26 mph it would still be pretty hard to shoot the driver.

Have you ever been to Seattle? What you described is not very probable. What happened in Nice could happen anywhere. Stoping a vehicle is hard at best if it's a small car. If it a larger truck, well that gets even more challenging. The movies make stuff like a pit maneuver common and easy. But the fact of the matter is that it is much more likely to be successful if the car/truck trying to execute such maneuver is bigger than the car it's trying to stop. So we are still looking at opening fire on a moving truck in a crowd of people. What happened in Nice was a terrible but highlight the fact that if someone want to do something bad they will find a way.

It also highlight the reality that you and you alone are the best chance you have at providing for you own security. The police are there to do their best but when you look at the reality there are so few of them compared to us. Hence the saying that gets used again and again. When seconds count the police are just minutes away. I in no way meant that as a shot at LEO's. It just the reality of the world.
May god rest the souls of the victims in Nice and the others that die daily from senseless violence.

yes, but they were called there because reports of a gun. if you go in expecting a gun, you don't start with a tazer. the biggest problem was this guy hiding his hand. they did not know what/why he was hiding, and they were already on alert due to the gun call.

yeh, having his sidearm out ahead of time, im not so sure I agree with that. but, again, it could have been due to the nature of the call. I read somewhere, that it was someone with a rifle. but, not sure.

I know this isn't the point of your post, but the reports I read, said differently. that once he stopped the truck, he got out and started firing into the crowd. also, there were grenades in the truck. guns might not have been his primary weapon, but they were used.

as far as getting rid of them? I think the gloves need to come off.
after an event like this, there is always something in their past that at least leads one to believe they could do such a thing. often times they have already been investigated once, or even several times. we are so afraid of offending people, that they are being allowed to do terrible things.

Based on what I've seen/read/heard/experienced, as well as others in this thread sharing anecdotal evidence, I believe you are grossly underestimating this particular element of the active protestors with that 1% figure. It seems to be a majority of the supporters have this attitude.

These people aren't protesting - they're simply acting out because they can - nobody's stopping them. What good do they expect to come from this type of behavior? Unity and understanding?

Got that part and you and I are in agreement....but I'm not sure what you're referring to with the reference to preconceived notions unless you're assuming I was arguing the point or attacking you somehow due to being blinded by anything other than the facts of the situation.....I am suggesting this attitude is shared by a majority of those people - a 1% population could easily be explained away.
