FWIW I dont know if anyone has actually read any of the info on the official BLM website but this particular article hopes to debunk many of the misconceptions surrounding the group.

Contained within the statement is an unspoken but implied “too,” as in “black lives matter, too,” which suggests that the statement is one of inclusion rather than exclusion. 9. The movement hates police officers. Police officers are people. Their lives have inherent value. This movement is not an anti-people movement; therefore it is not an anti-police-officer movement. Most police officers are just everyday people who want to do their jobs, make a living for their families, and come home safely at the end of their shift. This does not mean, however, that police are not implicated in a system that criminalizes black people, that demands that they view black people as unsafe and dangerous, that trains them to be more aggressive and less accommodating with black citizens, and that does not stress that we are taxpayers who deserve to be protected and served just like everyone else. Thus the Black Lives Matter movement is not trying to make the world more unsafe for police officers; it hopes to make police officers less of a threat to communities of color. Thus, we reject the idea that asking officers questions about why one is being stopped or arrested, about what one is being charged with, constitutes either disrespect or resistance. We reject the use of military-grade weapons as appropriate policing mechanisms for any American community. We reject the faulty idea that disrespect is a crime, that black people should be nice or civil when they are being hassled or arrested on trumped-up charges. And we question the idea that police officers should be given the benefit of the doubt when it comes to policing black communities. Increasingly, the presence of police makes black people feel less rather than more safe. And that has everything to do with the antagonistic and power-laden ways in which police interact with citizens more generally and black citizens in particular. Therefore, police officers must rebuild trust with the communities they police. Not the other way around.

Lol, I'm sure by "anyone" you are referring only to people on this thread.

I don't get the impression that too many BLM protesters themselves have read their own website.

When BLM publicly rebukes its own members for chanting slogans in contravenance of its own "clarifications", I'll take their website seriously.

The opening statement is telling:
"#BlackLivesMatter was created in 2012 after Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman, was acquitted for his crime, and dead 17-year old Trayvon was posthumously placed on trial for his own murder. Rooted in the experiences of Black people in this country who actively resist our dehumanization, #BlackLivesMatter is a call to action and a response to the virulent anti-Black racism that permeates our society.Black Lives Matter is a unique contribution that goes beyond extrajudicial killings of Black people by police and vigilantes."

So let's look at this closer. George Zimmerman was acquitted of the charges of "murdering" Trayvon martin. A Jury found him not guilty. And yet, it is labelled an "extrajudicial killing" by a "Vigilante".

The BLM official page states that the entire movement was born from the "murder" of him.

It goes on to say:
"When we say Black Lives Matter, we are broadening the conversation around state violence to include all of the ways in which Black people are intentionally left powerless at the hands of the state. We are talking about the ways in which Black lives are deprived of our basic human rights and dignity."

Here's a few I picked from the list they provided:

1) "How Black poverty and genocide is state violence."

2) "How 2.8 million Black people are locked in cages in this country is state violence."

3) "How 500,000 Black people in the US are undocumented immigrants and relegated to the shadows."

4) "How Black girls are used as negotiating chips during times of conflict and war."



1) This is one of the few countries in the world that you have true opportunity to better yourself with hard work and determination. The "State" not only provides assistance, but provides greater assistance to the black community than to any other race.

2) So- none of those folks did anything wrong to get locked up in prison, they just got "caged" for being black. Right...

3) "Undocumented" is a nice little happy loli-pops and lili-pads replacement word for ILLEGAL. They are ILLEGAL, as in criminals. There is a path to citizenship here, take it and become a citizen. They relegated themselves to "the shadows" by coming here illegally. Take the legal path and step out of the shadows friends.

4) I don't even know what to say to this one. This type of stuff happens in places like Africa, not the USA. It's sensationalism.

And here's the last tid-bit:

We affirm our contributions to this society, our humanity, and our resilience in the face of deadly oppression. We have put our sweat equity and love for Black people into creating a political project–taking the hashtag off of social media and into the streets. The call for Black lives to matter is a rallying cry for ALL Black lives striving for liberation."

What "deadly oppression"? "Systematically targeted for demise" by the entire world? What planet are these people living on?

The black leaders of the past in America would be ashamed of these folks who are keeping themselves down by blaming others for their position/problems in life instead of proactively doing something about it to better themselves- with how much freedom and how much opportunity we ALL have today. The black leaders of the past worked hard for the equality of opportunity in a time when black lives were actually marginalized and placed on the fringe of society.

I have several black friends ranging from a surgeon to a coal miner I play basketba) with. Without exception every one of them do not fit those beliefs. They are good people who work hard and play hard same as me.

I have similar friends and associates that are fed up with the BLM folks.
 
OK, I'll join in.....I have two very good black friends who are married to each other and are both university professors and they also are not a fans of BLM but they have had conversations with their kids about being stopped by the police. I really only have two black friends :)

My kids are 21 and 24 now and I have had the police, stranger, white van, adults, teachers and all kinds of people talk with them over the years. What I told them? Listen and evaluate. In the case of police then cooperate fully. If you think it was unjust or unfair you deal with it later, not then. Ever.

The "Hands up don't shoot" is specifically in reference to the Ferguson shooting. Where it was found to be absolutely false that he had his hands up and got shot. He was actively resisting and attacking the LEO and got shot for it.

Now, in this shooting in Miami it looks pretty bad. The guy was in a supinated position with his hands up and got shot- at least from the info we have thus far, again we should wait for the investigation to be conducted to know all of the facts.

I will say that it sounds like the LEO who shot him had his booger hook on the trigger and had the rifle pointed at the caretaker and accidentally shot him. Violating 2 of Coopers four rules.

I'll comment as if what we know is what happened. Scenario: Guy in supine with hands up asking cop not to shoot, he is a caretaker for the autistic man with a truck/toy in his hand trying to articulate/communicate that to the LEO and also stating he does not have a gun and is not a threat.

The cop may have made simple but very BAD mistake and accidentally shot the guy, that is the most likely scenario.

It is not likely that he intended to "murder" the guy, or being "targeted systematically for demise" or "Extrajudicial vigilante killing".

^That narrative is straight from BLM website I posted/linked about earlier.

My point being again, the real issue is training.

It appears on the surface with the facts we have to work with the LEO shot him because he was negligent in keeping his finger off of the trigger and he had his rifle pointed at the caretaker. Seems like he was jumpy and literally jumped the gun in this case and wasn't following safety protocol.

That does NOT equal, white cops are trying to kill black people systematically.

Now if it comes out the LEO was targeting this gentleman for murder because he was black (Which I seriously doubt) then prosecute the shit out of him and on to jail with him.

I feel bad for the caretaker, he was trying to help his patient and got a bullet to the leg and had to lay down on 2,000 degree pavement for several minutes in FL in July!

I hope he makes a full recovery and I am sure the city is going to say here's a number, write as many 0's behind it as you think is fair ad we can settle out of court.

It will be interesting to see this investigation unfold.

One more thing I will add. It is horrible timing. This incident will be used to further an agenda regardless of the facts surrounding it. Something that's becoming all too commonplace in America.

I didn't use the right word. Instead of silly I should have said "thinly veiled insults aimed at another poster's intelligence" or something to that effect. To me that is silly. Treat people here like you were sitting in a coffee shop or bar having this discussion face to face. Pretty sure that would tone it down a bit.

well, if you had read what I said, I was talking about the event that kicked off the BLM crap. but as it turns out, according to the above info, that was due to another, DIFFERENT justified shooting.


as to your link, that looks to be a bad shoot. though, we don't see much video, he certainly didn't look to be resisting in any way. in fact, for being unjustly shot, he had a damn good attitude about the whole thing.
 
Maybe they can just post the partial videos on social media.

If it gets enough likes the officer(s) are indicted, get more likes and they are convicted and then we vote on how many years in prison they get.

Justice would be served promptly, the incidents could be wrapped up in one or two news cycles so no violent demonstrations putting other officers at risk and the taxpayer would save a lot of money.

Win-win-win.
