America this week, what the hell?

I think you just described all the major candidates I have seen run in the last 3-4 POTUS cycles. The office of the president is to uphold the constitution and listen to the people and defend the country. Obama and Bush have failed miserably at both. Clinton and George H. W weren't much better. But all came out much more wealthy than when they entered office.

Most of the candidates that would make good choices won't ever get a chance. Sad day

What a cop out answer. Anyone who thinks Trump is no different than past candidates is beyond help and a blind fool. Your other comments are nonsense too that past Presidents did miserable jobs defending our country......sure you can pull up a list of some events that have happened but right beside it you should put the list that's 100x longer where they've had great success.

So you disagree with my post. But to call it a coop out answer because you disagree with it is nothing but the same. I think Reagan was a good president and Kennedy was as well. Those 2 also helped truly defend our country. LBJ? Carter? Bush senior helps defend the Middle East. Clinton? W. Bush had a major terror attack at home and took a fight to them. But looses a lot of credit for not listening to the same advise his father got. Don't go in to Baghdad and remove Sadam because there is no exit strategy. Obama? Multiple terror attacks home blames them on? Not radical Islamic terror. I choose not to go further back than Kennedy.

As for Trump being the same I have said it before and will say it again. For those that don't listen. I don't like trump but Hillary scares the hell out of me. She is a massive globalist progressive. Trump may be but if he is he lies about it better. Also I think he is less damning to the republic where as Hillary is pressing the NOS button towards the cliff. So I support trump. I know he is a liberal. Both our candidates are liberal. Funny how the news and the left think he's a conservative. That should highlight just how far left the news and major left wing has become when Trump appears to be a conservative you can draw some prospective.

So defend your statement Hikenbike. How have our recent current presidents downs good job defending our country?

So defend your answer.

Saw your post and went outside my workplace to take this pic. Perhaps this sums it up quite nicely.......beautiful day and thousands of people out doing whatever they damn well please and having a great time too. This symbolizes a giant "F**k You" to any who may want to do us harm.

Those who are protecting us are doing something very right every day.......

uh, what? that doesn't make any sense. a picture of a building is your "defense" of your reply?

ignoring a situation doesn't keep it from existing.
I am also having a great, and safe day, however, that doesn't mean that EVERYONE is. crime happens daily.

I don't understand how people can think/live that way.

It makes complete sense to me......and I totally understand why it doesn't to you.

If you don't understand that just because you ignore a situation doesn't make it not exist then thats the world you live in. If the majority of people are like that as well then I guess we will get what we deserve. But bottom line is Chicago had the deadliest July on record, major terrorist attacks are up around the world, and many people are struggling to just pay rent and put food on the table. All 3 of these items are or should be of great concern to any person that actually cares about their fellow man. I had a great day also. It doesn't mean I turn a blind eye to the reality that exists around me.

We have a complete lack of leadership in this country at the moment. And most of Europe for that matter. There are a few countries that are beginning to wise up. I just pray that we will be one soon.

Those that can't defend their response either know it's wrong or are just to lazy to put the effort in. I suppose we will just have to guess what category you fall under. Since I doubt you will feel like putting the effort in to telling us.

The idea that Trump and Hilary are both liberals is laughable.

Centrists at best. Sanders was a liberal, the first real liberal candidate in quite awhile. America has been center-right for awhile now.

Ha ha. Well I live in NJ and obviously commute to one of, if not the biggest, terrorist target on Earth........and yet SOMEHOW I feel safe and that my country is well defended......not just now, but for years. Maybe I'm delusional but I think there are MANY like me.

Chicago? How is that a Presidents problem? Bad areas have high crime and high murder rates. Stay out of them. Let them rot to the point there is nobody left and over time they will turn around. See Harlem. See Harrison, NJ.

Terrorist attacks across the world? Well.....I live in the US and although I feel for anyone impacted by the attacks, they do need to wake up a bit from a very vulnerable culture they've lived in for DECADES. Again, how is this our Presidents problem?

Those who can't pay rent or for food? Those will ALWAYS exist. It's been every Presidents problem......but if your being honest, nobody has given a damn because it will ALWAYS exist for a certain percentage. Sorry. Nobody is losing sleep over it. Cold? Yes. But it's the truth.

What's the "situation" you speak of?

Chicago is his town he was a senator for Illinois. It has a long time democratic endorsed leadership. Obama's former right mans man is the "Godfather" in the town. It had his dream gun control policies. Very much a welfare state that he enforces the policies of. He has tried repeatedly pushed the same agenda on the country. So do we wait till it becomes a problem in our home town till we speak up. I don't, I speak up before it spreads. The only way to solve a problem is to address it.

As to the terrorist attacks. San Bernardino, Orlando were both ISIS inspired attacks. The FBI even said it. Just our president denies it. Fort Hood Texas was a Muslim inspired attack. The Syrian refugees that raped a young girl in Twin Falls Idaho and the AG threatened any negative speech against the suspects will be treated as a hate crime. Same MO for the San Bernardino jihadist. They edited all references of Islam and ISIS from the Orlando attacks and then said we will never know what inspired this attack. Those are 3 major terror attacks on US soil since Obama has been in office and one of many individual crimes committed by refugees coming from jihad afflicted countries. The president then says that it would not be American to flood our streets with these loving people. Thus putting American lives at risk in the name of political correctness. That alone is a lack of leadership. You can have your opinions and they are yours, I will have mine. If you give TSA credit for all the "attacks" they have stopped then they get what 12 ish. They didn't stop the time square number who failed. He just failed. The underwear bomber failed they didn't stop him. TSA has been demonstrated to not be able to stop 90% of weapons that test attempt to get through but the president just gives them more men and women. Instead of trying different option. Private companies? Remember airports had privat security before 9-11-2001 and it took box cutters and flying planes to cause this damage. Now you can't take full water bottles over 3 oz and same with all liquids. Elderly have to damn near get undressed to get on a flight. But we can't "profile" because that's not PC. Shall we talk about the Iran deal. Hillary and Obama started it. Actually lied about when they started it. Made a"deal" with Iran. Then Iran take 2 small navy boats hostage "rescued them". Detained their new friends at gun point. Forced them to give up passwords and classified information about the boats they "rescued". Then paid 400 million dollars to Iran in the form of euros and Swiss Frank's but that wasn't a ransom. It was for something else. Just seemed like a good time to give them money. Now Iran is blatantly thumbing its nose at the treaty and us. And we are doing nothing about it. More poor leadership. As for the rest of the government (house, senate, CBP, ICE, Scotus). They refuse to take a stand and remain quiet. That in and of itself is a lack of leadership.

As to trump not being a liberal. He is a liberal. Bernie is an outright socialist. I may disagree with him him. But at least he had the courage to admit it. I live outside of Seattle. Seattle is a very liberal city. There is one open socialist on the city council and she says although the council is very liberal and progressive. It still is not far enough left.

As to people not being able to pay rent or put food on the table. Part of that is due to the welfare hand out mentality that has been instilled for the last 20+ years. And the other part is from there not being any good paying jobs available. The answer is not to raise the minimum wage. The answer is to stop outsourcing and start making again. But then again I am a maker not a taker. I believe a former speaker of the house that represents California would call me a bitter clinger. But that's just me I guess.

We have 120 trillion in unfunded liabilities at the moment. Obama took office with around 14 trillion and thought he could send his way out of debt. That is poor leadership. Obama is bashing the presidential candidate Trump when ever he can. Even overseas. Traditionally the sitting president will endorse his party but that endorsement stops then you go to different countries. It's about projecting a unified image of your country you are leading. This sets a poor example and you lead by example.

Former house speaker John Boehner blankety ignored the will of his represented people then tried to let the democrats save his job for him after the people called for him to resign. Just an example of how its full of big government progressives and very few democrats or conservatives.

Phones about to die so that all I have time for sorry about the novel but lots of examples to list.

Add somewhere in your laundry list that the US economy was in the second great depression when The Bama took office. And, they are many ways out of a depression with differing degrees of hurt.

Agreed. It usually involves creating jobs and cutting spending. But that just basic collage economics. In sure they know a better way by spending money they can't pay back

Low to non-existent interest rates, banks were given money to lend but since about 1/3+ of corporate profits are made now through financial investments.....decent paying jobs will likely not be in abundance as before.

What American (and Canada) really need(s) to do is spend the tax revenue they generate on a regional level instead of corporate welfare and money going overseas. Social programs are generally only meant to be temporary bandaids and are ultimately inefficient long term. Clinton left Bush Jr with a surplus which became a deficit quickly. Obama took over a crisis and spent his way inefficiently (as all government) out of it. The economy has stabilized but will likely never see GDP growth as before unless you tax and tariff every import and likely flip to hyper-inflation as prices will sharply rise in the interim. There is no quick fix.

Personally, if we can force our elected officials to be accountable for their own corruption, only then we will see any change at the level of the average citizen. Money talks louder now than ever before because corruption is at every level of government and even the private sector.

Spending tax money at a regional level is something most conservatives support. You shrink the federal government and let the states decide how best to spend their tax dollars. They know better than the big government where the money needs to go.

Don't forget that it was president Carter that took America off the Gold Standard as a way to help be fair to the rest of the world. This opened up the ability for the government to print money as needed. Thus starting the mess we are in.

Clintons surplus was not his. It was the "failed" trickle down economics from Reagan and Bush. The numbers don't lie. If you actually look at the surplus level during the last 18 months of the Clinton era you will see it begin to not fall but to crash. So yes he left with a surplus but no person elected for the next term could have stopped the fall. The numbers simply do not lie. Bush did a terrible job at home but, most of the soldiers I know felt that Bush had their back over seas. His home economic policies were meager at best and because of his progressive agenda we ended up with 14 trillion dollars of unfunded liabilities. With Obama he has hit the gas. Ruled by executive order, ignored procedures and government regulation and spent us up to 120 trillion in unfunded liabilities.

Tariffs are a very real idea. We need to do something to encourage business to invest money back home. Negative interest rates are scary when you think about why they are necessary. Likely it would start with banks charging large corporations money to make deposits. They know that the large corporations need banks to do business. They would only charge joe the tax payer interest as a last resort. After all we would just go back to money under the mattress and barter systems.

Russell Square stabbings: Man arrested on suspicion of murder

Russell Square stabbings: Man arrested on suspicion of murder - BBC News

A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a US citizen was killed and five other people were injured in a knife attack in central London.
Police believe the attack in Russell Square on Wednesday was "spontaneous", with victims "selected at random".
The woman who died was thought to be in her 60s. The injured people were from Britain, America, Israel and Australia.
Police arrested a 19-year-old Norwegian national of Somali origin. They say there is no evidence of radicalisation.
